THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Library and Learning Resources Director, the Electronic Resources & System Librarian is responsible for managing electronic resources and library systems applications, leading library digital's initiatives, providing support for library collection acquisition and management, licensing, cataloging and creation of metadata for materials in all formats, overseeing library equipment and performing related duties as necessary.
The ideal candidate, within one's area of subject expertise (arts, business management, engineering and technology, or health sciences), balance a portfolio encompassing four key areas of responsibility: (1) development and management of library content services, (2) providing research support to individuals, (3) providing library research skills instruction, and (4) engaging with faculty to nurture library partnerships.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Electronic resource management
• Manage day-to-day operations and workflow supporting the selection, purchasing, licensing, access and maintenance of electronic resources and serials in all formats.
• Provide support and expertise in the management and organization of the library's electronic resources, including authentication (SAML), Proxy setup, A‐Z list of databases, link resolver, journal holdings and the discovery layer.
• Find solutions to access and content‐related issues by communicating with end users, vendors, colleagues, and others.
• Collect and analyze electronic resource statistical data to maximize e-resource use.
• Help to select electronic resources that meet the collection mandate of the library.
2. Library Systems Applications:
• Provide technical expertise, documentation, reports, training, day‐to‐day administration, and implements upgrades for all library systems/applications including Alma/Primo, Springshare applications, e-reserve, and institutional repository with IT support.
• Investigate, evaluate, and recommend new library software applications.
• Coordinate with IT team to implement and manage Library‐specific and institutional applications.
• Collect and analyze Library systems using statistical data using statistical data and analytics.
3. Collection development support, cataloging, technical services
• Select, procure, and review content in all formats consistent with the library's strategic goals, the collection development policy, and annual budget allocations in support of educational, research, entrepreneurship, and innovation activities of the university
• Promote open access and use of OER.
• Responsible for creation of metadata for materials in all formats, including traditional library cataloging and creation of metadata for digital objects.
• Ensure compliance with international cataloging standards, such as MARC, RDA, Library of Congress Subject Headings, OCLC, etc., as well as current cataloging and metadata schemas, such as Dublin Core, MODS, METS, and EAD.
• Responsible for updating and maintaining authority records in the integrated library system.
4. Digital Initiatives
• Lead and support implementation, management and evaluation of Library's digital initiatives including development of a digitization portal, coordination of digitization projects (art images, special collections, audio and video formats), research data management and services, and liaison with learning communities.
• Provide oversight of the library web presence, including coordination of library website which serves as a "Gateway" to all library resources and services, oversee e-course reserve and institutional repository in support of teaching, learning, research, and scholarly communication.
• Develop metadata schema and workflows with staff engaged in repository and digital collections projects across the libraries.
5. Instruction, reference, and research services
• Provide instruction, using a variety of formats, including online, face-to-face, or blended mode for VinUni faculty, students, and staff.
• Design and prepare informational and/or instructional materials in all formats (e.g., print, web, social networking, etc.) such as subject guides and online modules.
• Alert faculty to current materials and research trends in their area of expertise and collaborates with them to integrate library and web resources into the curriculum.
• Staff service desks and other duties to promote the curriculum and academic goals of the library.
• Provide in-person and virtual research assistance.
• Use bibliometric tools to work with faculty to advance individual scholarly reputation and the international reputation of VinUni.
• Partner with other campus stakeholders to position the library as a bridge between researchers in different fields to facilitate interdisciplinary scholarship.
6. Equipment Management:
• Coordinate the acquisition, circulation and maintenance of library equipment including hardware and software and ensures all procedures and policies are current.
• Maintain and provide support for the library automation machines and workstations.
7. Other:
• Assists the Director, Library and Learning Resources by providing professional input on matters involving library policy, future plan etc., undertaking special projects as requested.
