JOB DESCRIPTION
Location: Hanoi University of Science and Technology
Event Date(s): Oct 26-27
Time Commitment: Oct 1 - 27 (including preparation,dry-run)
Commitment: 5-7 hours/week
About the Event:
We are hosting STEAMese festival that brings together students, educators and parents to share knowledge, build connections about STEAM fields. To ensure accessibility for all participants, we are seeking a passionate and skilled Volunteer Sign Language Interpreter to assist in providing an inclusive environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing attendees.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret Live Sessions: Provide real-time sign language interpretation during presentations, speeches, panels, or workshops.
Pre-Event Preparation: Review event agendas, presentations, and key materials in advance to familiarize yourself with terminology and content.
Assist with Audience Interaction: Facilitate communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing attendees and speakers or other participants.
Interpret Networking and Q&A Sessions: Assist with any audience questions, networking opportunities, and discussions to ensure equal participation.
Collaborate with Event Staff: Work closely with the event coordinators and other team members to ensure smooth execution of the interpretation services.
Maintain Confidentiality: Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality, particularly when interpreting sensitive information or personal conversations.
REQUIREMENTS
Fluency in Sign Language: Proficiency in [Specify Sign Language, e.g., American Sign Language (ASL), British Sign Language (BSL), etc.] is required.
Experience: Prior experience interpreting for live events, conferences, or public speaking engagements is preferred but not required.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse groups, including event attendees, speakers, and other volunteers.
Professionalism: Ability to maintain professionalism, manage time effectively, and handle stressful situations calmly during live events.
Passion for Accessibility: A genuine commitment to ensuring inclusive and accessible environments for all individuals, particularly those in the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.

About the Role:
We are looking for compassionate and dedicated volunteers to join our team in providing support to individuals with disabilities. Volunteers will play an essential role in enhancing the quality of life for participants by assisting with daily activities, facilitating social engagement, and promoting independence in a safe and supportive environment. No prior experience is required, but patience, empathy, and a willingness to learn are key.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide Direct Support: Assist individuals with disabilities in various daily activities, including mobility, communication, recreational activities, and social interaction.
Provide Emotional Support: Offer companionship, listen to concerns, and provide positive reinforcement to promote emotional well-being.
Assist with Mobility: Support individuals with physical disabilities in moving around the facility or event, ensuring their safety and comfort.
Adhere to Safety and Care Protocols: Follow all guidelines related to the care and safety of individuals with disabilities, including hygiene, health, and emergency protocols.
Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with staff members to ensure that the needs of individuals are met and that activities run smoothly.
Maintain Confidentiality: Respect the privacy and dignity of all individuals by maintaining confidentiality regarding personal information and any sensitive topics.
REQUIREMENTS
Empathy and Patience: A genuine desire to support individuals with disabilities, combined with patience and a caring attitude.
Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with individuals who may have various communication needs, including non-verbal methods.
Teamwork: Willingness to work as part of a team, collaborating with other volunteers, staff, and participants to create a supportive environment.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt to different situations and respond calmly to the varying needs of individuals with disabilities.
Physical Stamina: Some roles may require physical activity, such as assisting with mobility or helping individuals participate in recreational activities.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
Experience or education in working with individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge of sign language, adaptive communication tools, or assistive technologies.
First Aid or CPR certification.
