Role Overview:
As the Pastoral Lead, you will have a multifaceted role in ensuring the well-being, safety, and overall development of students at our school. Your primary responsibilities include whole school behaviour management, student well-being, and leading the PSHE subject to ensure consistent coverage of statutory and non-statutory requirements. You will also focus on fostering a culture where pastoral care is a high priority in classrooms.
This is a split teaching and leadership role, with responsibility for a class, and a contact load of around 50%. The class teacher job description covers the responsibilities for the teaching element of the role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Whole School Behaviour Management:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive whole school behaviour management policy in collaboration with the Head of School and relevant stakeholders. This policy should be fair, consistent, and aligned with the school's values and mission.
• Provide guidance, training, and resources to staff members to maintain a positive and respectful school culture.
• Continuously monitor and analyse behaviour data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Intervene in challenging behaviour cases, offering guidance, support, and disciplinary measures as required.
• Communicate with parents, taking the lead or supporting the classroom teachers as required.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure classroom management strategies align with the school's behaviour policy.
2. Student Well-being:
• Oversee and enhance the school's well-being programs, focusing on mental and emotional health, social development, and student welfare.
• Establish and lead a support network for students, fostering a caring and inclusive environment.
• Implement and review pastoral care systems to ensure students have access to necessary support and guidance.
• Lead initiatives that promote student engagement, resilience, and a positive school experience.
3. PSHE Subject Coordination:
• Coordinate the PSHE curriculum to ensure it covers both statutory and non-statutory requirements, fostering a comprehensive and well-rounded educational experience for students.
• Collaborate with teachers to develop and update the PSHE curriculum, ensuring that it reflects current best practices and educational standards.
• Monitor and assess the delivery of PSHE lessons, providing guidance and support to teachers as needed.
• Ensure that PSHE lessons and programs are engaging and relevant to students.
4. Data Analysis and Reporting:
• Regularly review and analyse data related to behaviour, student well-being and PSHE.
• Prepare reports for senior leadership to provide updates on progress, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
5. Organisational Leadership:
• Draw up and review rosters for duty supervision.
6. Professional Development:
• Provide professional development opportunities for staff and parents to enhance their understanding of behaviour management, well-being and PSHE.
• Stay informed about best practices, research, and developments in these areas and disseminate knowledge to the school community.
This job description aims to outline the core responsibilities of the role but is not an exhaustive list and may evolve to suit the changing needs of the school and its students.
