About Data Products Team

Data Team at Ascenda is organized into three sub-teams: Data Products, Data Platform, and Data Science. Together, we drive the acceleration of data initiatives across Ascenda's products, business, and operations. The Data Products Team is central to this mission, providing professional consulting and managed services to support product teams in building and launching analytics dashboards, reporting, and various data-powered features in Ascenda products. We also work closely with product teams and business functions to design and manage the "gold layer" of analytics data models, making them ready for consumption and tailored for each unique use case. About the Senior Software Engineer role

We are currently seeking a seasoned Senior Software Engineer to be part of our Data Products Team. In this role, your main focus will be upgrading and scaling our in-house Ruby reporting system, enabling new reporting capabilities, and improving its integration with our data warehouse. Additionally, you'll collaborate closely with data analysts, analytics engineers, and data product owners, deepening your expertise in analytics engineering as you design and build high-quality analytics data models to power both internal and client-facing reporting and analytics dashboards.

Responsibilities:

• Solve problems end-to-end, engaging closely with our product owners, operations teams, and other engineering teams to upgrade and improve the in-house reporting system iteratively.
• Deliver analytics data models for reporting and product analytics dashboards.
• Solve problems across multiple engineering areas, such as performance, security, multi-tenancy, and observability, considering business impact, reliability, usability, and ease of integration.
• Handle production incidents and improve operational processes, monitoring, and tooling to minimize their impact and have a world-class incident management process.
• Mentor fellow engineers on their technical skills and career growth, to become future leaders and the next generation of subject matter experts at Ascenda.
• Serve as a role model for high Engineering standards, bringing consistency and quality to our codebases and operational processes.

What we're looking for:

• Proven experience in software engineering, especially in building large-scale backend data processing or reporting systems.
• Proficiency in Ruby for scalable backend development is a must
• Familiarity with modern data tools like dbt, Airflow, Kafka, Meltano, Debezium, with basic skills in data engineering and analytics engineering being a plus.
• Participation in technical roadmaps and Request for Comments (RFCs) to communicate technical strategy and address architectural challenges
• Strong collaboration skills, comfortable working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, design, and business teams.
• Enthusiastic about mentoring and leading engineers, offering guidance and coaching to boost performance.
• Preference for simple, effective solutions over complex ones, with an instinct for creating scalable and lasting designs.
• Product-focused mindset, working closely with product and operations teams to develop features together.
