- The contracted working time is 44 hours per week, working on weekends as assigned by the line manager.
- AC is expected to work normally 40 hours per week, 5 days per week, with a standard 8-hour day.
- AC will have two consecutive days off unless center conditions (high number of sick or injured staff, teacher shortage, etc.) make this infeasible.
- A bachelor's degree
- At least 1 year experience in in academic management
- At least 3 years' Young Learner teaching experience
- A CELTA (or equivalent) teaching certificate with teaching practicum
- Teaching the provided syllabus using ESL methods
- Creating and administering engaging speaking activities
- Administering mid-term and final tests
- Participating in monthly training workshops and meetings
- Attending parent-teacher meetings annually
- Regular communication with our office
- Participating in retention activities (Halloween, Christmas etc.)
- Monitor resources, equipment requirements, and SMT budget for Academic needs (with OM and/or AM).
- Work closely with other centre departments to ensure clear communication between academic and business needs.
- Escalate concerns from other departments/ business functions about teacher related issues to the AM.
- Field concerns/complaints from teachers about operational issues and redirect to AM, HR, operations etc. as appropriate.
- Resolve issues such as: room changes, scheduling conflicts, covers, course teaching suitability, etc.
- Work with ACA team on issues such as: printing and distributing tests, reports.
- Handle any student/class issues from teachers and escalate to AM for program needs or issues of placement testing.
- Manage teachers in attempts at Teachers' Room cooperation and organization/ orderliness.
- Supervise maintenance of classroom spaces (organization, tidiness) and academic materials such as course books, flashcards and tests for centre's use in consultation with the materials officer.
- Attend marketing events as directed by the AM, not to exceed 4 hours per week; Take responsibilities for teacher arrangement for sales and marketing activities when required.
- Delegate tasks to teachers in accordance with the teacher Job Description.
- Attend bi-weekly SMT meetings with sales, operations, and ACA team to discuss centre related issues.
- Attend bi-weekly academic town hall meetings to discuss academic issues and program development.
- Attend weekly meetings with AM regarding academic matters on an as-needed basis.
- Be responsible for other tasks as assigned by the AM.
- Maintain and uplift academic quality through informal observation and performance review for teachers; work with Academic Manager to plan and execute formal observations.
- Maintain work ethic and professionalism of teachers and coordinate with the AM, HR and Operations to deal with disciplinary issues.
- Mentor underperforming teachers who are placed on Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) to ensure they receive the guidance required to meet Language Link Academic's teaching standards.
- Provide daily support to teachers and TAs in all academic areas; lesson planning, exploitation of resources, familiarization with curriculum, facilities, personnel and policies etc. programs.
- Provide support to teachers on testing procedures, assessment and reporting.
- Show teachers how to input data into spreadsheets.
- Answer questions about Parent Meetings, tests, first and final lessons.
- Be familiar with LLV polices and able to answer basic questions or refer teachers to the appropriate person.
- Connect teachers with appropriate staff member for disciplinary issues with students.
- Check registers and lesson records, and work with teachers and TAs to ensure these are completed correctly.
- Review academic difficulty forms and provide recommendations to operations for support of at-risk students.
- Receive student and parent feedback and address with teachers and TAs. Communicate with Operations and report to AM as appropriate for additional actions or quality control system updates.
- Handle all program related issues from teachers and TAs while onsite. Distribute questions and feedback to AM.
- First responder on disciplinary issues. Escalate to AM and HR for resolution where necessary.
- Work with AM on hiring and rehiring of teachers.
- Organize and conduct four (4) training workshops per year.
- Attend at least one (1) town hall meeting per month to assist the AM.
- Conduct sharing sessions and teachers' meetings as required by AM.
- Conduct placement tests and train teachers on placement testing.
- Be responsible for other tasks assigned by AM.
- AC teaching load will include up to 15 scheduled teaching hours and 5 emergency cover hours per week; emergency cover hours will include demos as well, if necessary.
- Emergency cover is at the AC's discretion.
- Development projects requiring a significant investment of time and effort will reduce the scheduled teaching load while the project is ongoing; this will be decided and managed in consultation with the AM and OM.
- Standard Teaching Responsibilities:
- Teaching the provided syllabus using CELTA-standard ESL methods;
- Creating and administering engaging speaking activities;
- Administering mid-term and final tests;
- Attending parent-teacher meetings.
- Note: If the AC teaches for more than 80 hours in a month, any extra hours above 80 will be paid at the applicable hourly rate. The exception to this will be if the AC works for less than an average of 40 hours per week across the month due to issues other than Approved Leave (AL/PL/SL/UL). In this case, the extra teaching hours will not be paid at the hourly rate and will instead be included in the salaried hours.
- Assist the AM with materials creation and curriculum improvement as directed (i.e. level reduction)
- Propose, design, and execute center extra-curricular activities; maintain ongoing extra-curricular activities as needed.
