Role Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager who combines deep backend/platform infrastructure expertise with leadership capability to grow a team and build production-grade systems. You'll own the roadmap, architecture and delivery of our core backend ecosystem (micro-services) as well as our central data warehouse/analytics layer. Your mission: enable fast, secure, reliable service delivery for our product-teams and set the foundation for Vulcan Labs' next stage of growth.
Responsibility:
As an Engineering Manager in our team, you will:
- Lead across microservices and Data Platform; align priorities, ship reliably, unblock quickly.
- Translate product goals into backlogs and milestones with scope, dependencies, and risks tracked.
- Build a trusted platform others integrate easily using clear contracts, predictable changes, and solid documentation.
- Provide tech oversight for services: boundaries, messaging, idempotency, migrations; prefer simple patterns and ownership.
- Shape data pipelines end to end; define contracts, keep pipelines stable, govern access, enable analytics.
- Improve developer experience with golden paths, templates, automation, and dashboards that shorten feedback loops.
- Align security and privacy practices: access controls, secrets, data handling, and audits proportional to stage and risk.
- Make decisions on team development and take ownership of outcomes; commit to tradeoffs and learn quickly.
Your Skills and Experience
Requirements:
- Proven record shipping microservices system to production, owning end-to-end outcomes with small, focused teams.
- Solid grasp of microservices and data pipelines; review designs, ask pragmatic questions, guide tradeoffs.
- Familiar with backend platform ecosystems on GCP, leveraging Firebase (Crashlytics, Remote Config), integrating API gateways and auth/messaging layers (Endpoints/Apigee, IAM, Pub/Sub), and running CI/CD with GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and analytics platforms like Sentry, Coralogix, Grafana, and Google Cloud Logs or Google Firebase.
- Startup attitude: prioritize ruthlessly, cut scope safely, keep momentum, learn fast from experiments and feedback
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, product, and business teams.
- Experience leading engineers; strong people management with practiced coaching, hiring, feedback, and motivation.
- Familiarity with Go Programming Language is a big plus.
