1. Receives specimens when delivered to the Laboratory.
2. Check the labelling and sort specimens on receival and prioritize them for processing.
3. Assists the Pathologist in gross examination of surgical specimens and in frozen section procedures
4. Operates instrumentation for tissue processing, section clearing, impregnation with paraffin, cutting tissue sections, and staining of slides.
5. Operates Pathtezt machine for liquid cytology and perform its staining process. Also well versed with Conventional PAP testing and its staining process
6. Prepares solutions, stains, and reagents in accordance with standards written procedures.
7. Operates and maintains all histology area lab equipment in proper state of functionality and safety.
8. Records number of tissue blocks verifying proper identification and label.
9. Performs and monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required.
10. Is capable of performing all routine and special procedures which may include but is not limited to: a. Papanicolaou stains b. Hematoxylin and eosin stains c. Giemsa stains d. Pathology report forms
11. Performs other duties as requested by supervisors such as data entry, report generation, outsourcing samples etc
12. Retrieves pathology data
13. Shows willingness to assist other laboratory personnel when requested
14. Keeps current with changes in laboratory procedures
15. Organizes work for effective utilization of time within the duty hours
16. Shows ability to handle unexpected situations and is able to exercise independent thought and action.
