Position summary
We are seeking a hands-on Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 ERP & SQL Server Administrator to own the day-to-day stability, security, availability, and technical support of our Dynamics AX 2009 environment.
This role spans the AX application, Application Object Server (AOS), Microsoft SQL Server database, Citrix-published application environment, integrations, reporting, user access, and business operations. The successful candidate will troubleshoot production issues, administer environments and security, coordinate releases, protect data integrity, and partner closely with business users,
developers, infrastructure teams, and external vendors.
This role also responsible for security controls, technical documentation, disaster-recovery readiness, and contributions to future ERP modernization planning.
Core Responsibilities
• Administer and support Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 production, test, development, and disaster recovery environments.
• Own routine AX technical administration, including AOS services, configuration, client connectivity, environment health, service accounts, and related Windows services.
• Monitor and troubleshoot AX performance, user sessions, batch jobs, alerts, workflow processes, integrations, application errors, and availability issues.
• Analyze AX and SQL performance problems using AX tracing, long-running-query analysis, SQL Server monitoring, logs, and event data; partner with developers and infrastructure teams on root-cause fixes.
• Administer AX users, groups, roles, permissions, segregation-of-duties controls, service accounts, and periodic access reviews.
• Support AX client access delivered through Citrix Workspace, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or comparable published-application technology.
• Administer and support the SQL Server environment hosting AX databases: health checks, job monitoring, backup verification, restore testing, capacity planning, index/statistics maintenance, SQL Agent jobs, permissions, and performance troubleshooting.
• Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, scripts, views, and controlled data extracts for investigation, reporting, reconciliation, and integration support.
• Apply strict data-integrity practices: avoid unapproved direct SQL changes to AX transactional data; use approved AX processes, tested scripts, or vendor-supported methods with documented change approval and rollback plans.
• Support AX data imports, exports, migration activities, reconciliation, master-data validation, and issue remediation.
• Support integrations between AX 2009 and third-party systems, including payment platforms, EDI, SFTP, warehouse systems, reporting tools, custom applications, APIs, and scheduled processes.
• Troubleshoot AX customizations, X++ code issues, MorphX objects, labels, configurations, and deployment packages in coordination with developers or external AX partners.
• Coordinate code promotion and deployments across development, test, UAT, and production environments using disciplined release-management, testing, approval, rollback, and documentation practices.
• Manage environment refreshes, database restores, test-data handling, configuration changes, and release validation.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation: architecture diagrams, database dependencies, integration inventories, service accounts, support runbooks, recovery procedures, and change records.
• Coordinate patching, vulnerability remediation, endpoint protection compatibility, backup operations, disaster recovery exercises, and recovery validation with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams.
• Work with Finance, Accounting, Supply Chain, Operations, Warehouse, Procurement, and Sales teams to resolve ERP issues and improve processes.
• Provide escalation-level user support and targeted end-user training for AX functions, reporting, access issues, and Citrix-delivered access.
• Manage relationships with ERP vendors, managed service providers, consultants, and software partners.
• Contribute technical expertise to ERP modernization, data-retention, archival, integration replacement, cloud-readiness, and eventual migration planning.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on technical experience supporting Microsoft Dynamics AX, including substantial production support experience with Dynamics AX 2009 specifically.
• Demonstrated experience administering AX 2009 environments: AOS, client configuration, user administration, security, batch processing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and environment management.
• 3+ years of practical Microsoft SQL Server experience supporting production applications or ERP databases.
• Strong SQL skills: complex SELECT queries, joins, views, stored procedures, SQL Agent jobs, data validation queries, and performance investigations.
• Experience with SQL Server backup, restore, recovery, database maintenance, database security, monitoring, and production incident response.
• Experience troubleshooting AX application and SQL performance issues, including long-running queries, blocking, locking, deadlocks, indexing, and resource constraints.
• Experience supporting ERP interfaces, file-based integrations, scheduled jobs, data imports/exports, SFTP workflows, and third-party systems.
• Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, service accounts, NTFS permissions, and enterprise application access management.
• Experience supporting Citrix Workspace, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or another published-application/virtual-desktop platform.
• Strong understanding of change management, testing, release management, incident management, and production support disciplines.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with AX 2009 X++ development, MorphX, Application Object Tree (AOT), labels, configuration keys, and code deployment.
• Experience with AX 2009 modules: General Ledger, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Cash and Bank Management, Fixed Assets, Inventory,
Purchasing, Sales Order Processing, Production, Warehouse Management, or Master Planning.
• Experience supporting custom AX 2009 integrations, EDI, payment processing, banking files, credit-card gateways, shipping systems, or warehouse systems.
• Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Management Reporter, Excel reporting, Power BI data extraction, or custom reporting.
• Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Agent, linked servers, ETL processes, XML/CSV/JSON, REST APIs, SOAP services, or SFTP automation.
• Experience in a regulated, audit-sensitive, manufacturing, distribution, retail, healthcare, financial, or multi-entity environment.
• Familiarity with ITIL practices, SOC controls, SOX controls, PCI DSS, access recertification, and audit evidence collection.
• Experience participating in a Dynamics AX-to-Dynamics 365 Finance, Business Central, or alternate ERP evaluation/migration project.
• Microsoft, SQL Server, Azure, Citrix, ITIL, security, or ERP-related certifications.
