Position Summary
The Senior Developer will be part of a technical support and delivery team, responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of the Student Administration Management System (SAMS) and its integrating satellite applications, such as timetabling and e-learning systems. The responsibilities also include developing and maintaining data integrations and reporting functions.
Based on Oracle Campus Solutions, SAMS is utilised by RMIT staff and students globally. The incumbent is expected to rapidly gain expertise in the Campus Solutions platform, PeopleCode scripting, the SAMS data model, and RMIT's customisations.
Working within a complex, multicultural environment, the incumbent will collaborate with specialists across Vietnam, Australia, and India, in a pragmatic outcomes-oriented manner. They are expected to facilitate communication, solve complex technical challenges, and contribute to coding standards and best practices.
Reporting Line
- Reports to: Manager, SAMS Support
Key Accountabilities
- Collaborate with
business analysts and other stakeholders to understand business needs, contribute to user stories, and review architectural and feature designs.
- Enhance and create new functionalities for the Student Administration Management System (SAMS) to meet evolving requirements.
- Develop and improve SAMS reports using PSQueries and/or App Engines and SQL, while mastering the SAMS data model and RMIT-specific customisations.
- Manage and support data integrations using SAMS App Engines, Managed File Transfer, and Mulesoft APIs, ensuring system interoperability.
- Coordinate with teams in Vietnam, Australia, and India to ensure effective troubleshooting, design, implementation, testing, and timely delivery of user stories.
- Provide expertise in database development including record and schema design and writing complex queries using both SQL and PSQuery.
- Actively engage in Scrum meetings, such as daily stand-ups, backlog estimation, sprint demos, and retrospectives to drive project success and team improvement.
- Efficiently manage and resolve user support queries and technical incidents, ensuring customer satisfaction and system reliability.
Key Selection Criteria
- Bachelor's degree in computer science,
Software Engineering, or related discipline.
- At least five years of experience in software development, with at least one year in a senior developer role.
- Experience with a range of programming languages, which could include Python, VBScript, HTML, SQL or others.
- Having previous experience with Linux, PS Admin, PeopleCode/ SQR is an advantage.
- Experience with relational database development, for example with Oracle or MySQL. Expertise in writing efficient SQL (and/or Db tuning) is desirable.
- Experience working in a complex environment with a diverse team of analysts, developers, QA staff, system engineers, helpdesk staff, integration specialists, etc.
- Experience in working with agile or waterfall methodologies. Experience with Jira, Confluence and some tool for source code control and deployment.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and contribute to and take responsibility for the team's collective outcomes.
- Display an outcomes-oriented attitude and focus on customers and business processes.
- Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, as per the RMIT Behavioural Capability Framework (Connectedness, Commitment to Excellence - Improve and Simplify; Imagination and Innovation; Impact; Inclusion; Agility).
English Proficiency
English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS with a score of at least 6.5 (or equivalent as outlined in the Recruitment and Selection Guidelines).
