JTL-Software is one of Germany's leading providers of e-commerce and ERP solutions. More than 50,000 retailers rely on JTL every day to run their business. Our global development center in Vietnam is looking for talented people to build the next generation of these products. You'll work in an international team that pairs German software quality and Vietnamese speed to innovate.
Tens of thousands of merchants run their business on JTL. Their data, every order, article and stock movement, is spread across thousands of local systems, where it works for no one. We are changing that.
The Customer Data
Platform brings merchant data into the cloud, securely and with permission, and turns it into answers merchants can act on. It is the foundation beneath our new BI product, our AI agent Juno and every data product JTL will build next.
A first version already runs end to end. Now we are taking it from a handful of pilot merchants to a foundation built for thousands. We are a new, small and senior team with a clear mandate, a modern stack (Python, DuckDB, dbt, PostgreSQL, Dagster, Azure, Terraform) and an AI-native way of working: specs and decision records first, coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex doing much of the implementation, humans owning design, review and judgement.
You own the data path: from the moment a merchant's delivery arrives, through validation and nightly builds, to versioned business views that products can trust. Nothing lost, nothing counted twice, no half finished state ever visible, for thousands of merchants at once. We are hiring two Data Engineers with complementary profiles, from Mid-Level to Staff, and set the level with you, based on your experience.
The team spans Germany and Vietnam: two senior engineering leaders in Germany and three engineers in Ho Chi Minh City. You will work directly with the German leads, with our internal data team and with the product teams that build on the platform. Working language is English; we work asynchronously by default and meet daily in a shared overlap window.
YOUR EXCITING TASKS
Design and build tenant-isolated transformation layers with dbt and DuckDB, from raw deliveries to clean, versioned business views.
Define data contracts for ERP source tables (orders, articles, stock, invoices) and extend them to new sources step by step.
Build idempotent, replayable pipelines: deliveries may arrive twice, results never do.
Orchestrate nightly runs per merchant with Dagster, with retries, blast-radius limits and alerts that say what happened.
Automate data quality and end-to-end checks into every pull request.
Model the metrics products ask for, revenue, margin, stock, reorder signals, together with the product teams.
Work agent-first: specify, then let Claude Code and Codex implement, orchestrate agents across pipelines and models, triage pipeline issues with them, and own the review.
Keep cost per merchant transparent and low.
YOUR PROFILE AND YOUR PERSONALITY
8 years building production data pipelines.
Excellent SQL and strong Python; you can read a query plan and you test what you ship.
Hands-on experience with dbt (or comparable) and analytical engines such as DuckDB, Spark, Snowflake or BigQuery.
Experience with an orchestrator such as Dagster or Airflow.
A solid grasp of analytical data modelling: incremental loads, idempotency, late and duplicate deliveries.
Experience with relational sources (Microsoft SQL Server or similar) and PostgreSQL.
Hands-on, daily experience with AI coding agents such as Claude Code or Codex: you design agent workflows, orchestrate agents on real work and know when not to trust them.
Clear written and spoken English and a habit of writing things down.
Nice To Have
Multi-tenant data platforms, tenant isolation and row-level security.
Data contracts and schema evolution.
Terraform, Azure or GitHub Actions.
Semantic or metrics layers (MetricFlow, dbt Semantic Layer, Cube).
Building agent tooling: MCP servers, custom skills, agent evals, automated issue triage or AI-assisted data operations.
