JOB DESCRIPTION:
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1, Summary:
The EHS department focuses on both the health and safety of onsite personnel on site and protection of the environment. In addition, the department shares with Plant management the responsibility for compliance with both internal and external EHS regulations and requirements.
The EHS Manager is responsible for the overall implementation, development and execution the facility EHS programs responsibilities
2, Core job responsibilities:
EHS Team Leadership:
  • Provide leadership and direction for the plant Emergency Response Team, EHS Committee, and other EHS-related project teams.
  • Ensure EHS issues are addressed in both the strategic and operational business planning process, as well as during project execution.
  • Establish clear expectations across the department.
  • Hold department accountable for meeting plant and attendance guidelines.
  • For direct reports, ensure completion of all departmental training,
  • Manage EHS department budget.
  • Provide and/or conduct timely and effective environmental, health and safety communications, training, and employee involvement opportunities for the Site.
  • Submit required metrics information for Monthly Business Review and to Corporate / Division / Plant stakeholders.
  • Solicit feedback from direct staff regarding their desired career path and provide opportunities for growth accordingly.
  • Meet with direct staff quarterly for feedback on growth planning discussions.
  • Define Site objectives and review progress
Technical expectation:
  • Interprets and adapts division and/or corporate policies, procedures, and regulatory standards to site/facility level.
  • Assists other professionals and management in the application of standard EHS theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • Conducts risk assessments/audits for people, plant and/or process.
  • Conducts complex investigations.
  • Develops and evaluates EHS programs and serves as an expert to the business.
  • Collects and analyzes data to establish EHS priorities and interventions.
  • Implements and tracks EHS projects.
  • Perform feasibility studies related to project alternatives.
  • Understands the business requirements and possible impacts for change.
  • Has knowledge of the stakeholder needs and EHS compliance when developing a project scope.
  • Acts as a lead person or technical expert on projects.
  • Resolves day to day EHS issues.
Compliance:
  • Develops and provides training on programs, systems or EHS compliance.
  • Assess and monitor compliance with both internal and regulatory environmental, health and safety standards.
  • Review Site EHS Programs as outlined by dates indicated in EHS Compliance Calendar.
  • Recommend and implement changes to internal EHS programs, as necessary.
  • Ensure Division/GEHS tracked Action Management items (loss prevention, GEHS audit, etc) are closed per developed action plan.
  • Designs and delivers EHS training programs, implement EHS policies and procedures
  • Develop long range plan to support EHS strategy, considering long term goals and EHS continuous improvement
MINIMUM BACKGROUND/ EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Work Experience:
  • Ability to champion and implement the EHS vision/mission. ·
  • Technical expertise in EHS and excellent working knowledge of applicable regulatory standards.
  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into policies and procedures.
  • Team leadership experience involving cross-functional participants.
  • Positive track record of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external clients/resources; demonstrates ability to successfully negotiate among peers and customers.
  • Ability to communicate with broad audiences internally and externally.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with external regulators and third parties.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with internal customers.
  • Good presentation skills and/or group facilitation skills is required.
  • Individual must possess demonstrated leadership capability, sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Good project management skills and knowledge of related disciplines required.
  • Develops and conducts EHS training for employees.
  • Acts as a technical resource for project teams and other internal customers.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision in key responsibility areas.
  • Ability to manage efforts of direct reports
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Health and Safety, Engineering, Biological Sciences;
