We invite you to apply to our Packaging Technician position in Bowling Green, KY. We are currently seeking night shift Technicians starting at $21.53 per hour. Upon completion of certification process (as early as 3 months), the pay rate increases to $26.78 per hour. (these rates include a $1/hour shift differential for night shift).

The objective of this position is to support operations and to package product according to Hill's quality standards and guidelines.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Attends team meetings, communicate with, and obtains information from outgoing shift regarding line status and general operations
Conducts visual and hands-on inspection of Packaging machinery and equipment to ensure full functionality prior to starting the line
Prepares the line for running
Starts up and runs line (requires bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, repetitive motion in the arms and back, standing on feet for a maximum of 3 hours, routinely climbing up to 3 flights of stairs of 15 steps each, and mental concentration). Objects to be lifted that may weigh 50 pounds include bags of product to be cut open and reworked.
Operates sealers for all size bags
Hand stacks bag sizes (1-50 lbs)
Conducts line changeovers for different products or bag sizes
Changes carrier screens to accommodate different size product
Troubleshoots line operation
Routinely weighs product (requires lifting up to 50 lbs), measures kibble size for length of variation, and routinely records the data on paper and electronic control charts
Visually inspects product continually for consistency of color, shape, and product consistency (mixing of product)
Takes samples of product as required by the operating procedures
Gathers sample containers at end of shift and delivers to the Lab for further review and provides empty containers for incoming shift
Routinely operates palletizer for bags
Places protective cardboard covers over pallets before pallets are shrink wrapped
Operates and maintains shrink wrap machine and changes out rolls of shrink wrap as needed (requires lifting up to 45 lbs)
Generates bar code labels utilizing WonderWare computer software and Zebra printers and affixes bar code labels to completed pallets
Produces end of shift reports that include
Generates printout of data entries
Reconciles reports through Materials Services to ensure finished goods accountability
Responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary work area (requires sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, shoveling, and pushing)
Accountable for meeting or exceeding all safety standards
Understands and complies with Hill's policies, safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety.
Identifies and reports Food Safety issues to management.
Operates forklift and moves pallets
Participates in other cross-functional teams

Shares information and communicates on routine matters with other team members
Communicates on routine matters with Shift Leaders, Shift Optimization Technicians/Team Coordinators, Utility Technicians and Shift Quality Resources in person or by radio

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma or the equivalent
Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly for extended periods of time
Ability to work with cleaning chemicals in non-temperature controlled environments
Ability to climb stairs and ladders, bend to 90 degrees repeatedly, squat and lay prone to the floor for extended periods.
Must be able to work any shift, weekends and mandatory overtime as needed.
Proficient with computers, software, and data processing.
Minimum 3-5 years experience in manufacturing environment.
Must be able to work a 2-2-3 (12 hour shift) schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated competency of Attention to Detail, Work Standards, Initiative and Managing Work
Technical college/vocational school certificate or Associates degree in related field highly preferred
Food safety experience a plus
Previous manufacturing work team experience preferred with packaging equipment
Demonstrated competency in problem solving/decision making, effective communication, results oriented, and job fit motivation.
SAP knowledge is highly preferred
