QA Specialist - Job Description
Location: Ha Noi - Viet Nam
Employment Type: Full-time
About the role
We're hiring a QA Specialist in Vietnam to test the work our Vietnam engineering team builds, so issues are caught before they reach customers. Our product is built on Ruby on Rails with a JavaScript front end.
You'll work day to day with the Vietnam engineering team and report to two people: the QA Team Lead in the US, who sets testing standards and priorities, and the Vietnam Team Lead, who coordinates your daily work with the
developers. You'll be the QA bridge between both teams.
What you'll do
● Test new features, bug fixes and releases built by the Vietnam engineering team, in the browser,
before they ship.
● Use browser developer tools (Console, Network, Elements, Application/Storage) to find the root symptom of a problem, not just its visible effect.
● Read HTTP requests and responses to tell whether a problem is a front-end bug, a failed API call, a bad status code (4xx/5xx), or unexpected data.
● Write clear, complete bug reports: steps to reproduce, expected vs. actual result, environment and browser, screenshots or screen recordings, console errors and relevant network details.
● Retest fixes and run regression checks on related areas so fixes don't break something else.
● Create and maintain test cases and checklists for features you test.
● Work with developers to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria before testing starts.
● Share testing status and risks with both the US QA Team Lead and the Vietnam Team Lead.
What we're looking for
● 2+ years of QA experience testing web applications.
● Strong browser developer tools skills in Chrome (and ideally Firefox or Safari): inspecting elements, reading console errors, and examining network requests.
● Basic HTTP knowledge: request methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE), common status codes (200,
301/302, 401, 403, 404, 422, 500), headers, cookies, and reading JSON responses.
● Meticulous documentation: bug reports another person can reproduce on the first try, without follow-up questions.
● Strong written English comprehension: you can read specs, tickets and Slack threads in English and write clear English bug reports.
● Attention to detail and curiosity: you look for edge cases, unusual inputs and "what happens if..."
scenarios.
● Comfort working with a remote team across time zones and asking questions when something is unclear.
Nice to have
● Spoken English for occasional calls with the US team. Not required: most communication happens in writing over Slack and other tools that support translation.
● Experience testing Ruby on Rails applications or JavaScript front ends (React, Stimulus/Hotwire, or similar).
● Experience with bug trackers and test management tools such as Jira, Linear, GitHub Issues or
TestRail.
● Familiarity with API tools like Postman or curl.
● Exposure to automated testing (e.g. Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, or RSpec system specs).
● Basic SQL to check data behind a bug.
● Experience testing on mobile browsers and responsive layouts.
How we work
Most communication is written, in English, through Slack, tickets and shared docs, so translation tools are fine to use. You'll work Vietnam business hours alongside the engineering team, with a short overlap window for syncs with the US QA Team Lead.
