* Position Objective
- Informed by our definition of International Mindedness, the School Counselor plays a crucial role in guiding our school values.
- Responsibilities include overseeing a comprehensive school counseling program designed to be preventive, developmental, and specifically tailored to support ISSP students to access curriculum and support personal and social development.
- Additionally, the School Counselor assumes the critical position of a consultant to educators, families, and community partners. This responsibility extends to ensuring the highest standards of social and emotional development and involves establishing and implementing robust procedures to guarantee the well-being of every student within the ISSP community.
* Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
The job holder's responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School's Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of School or to the Regional CEO or Safeguarding Manager - Asia so that a referral can be made accordingly to the statutory services.
* Development and Management:
- Utilize data to develop and inform the school counseling program, evaluating its impact on the school's instructional goals.
- Collaborate with school leadership on the development and management of the comprehensive school counseling program, ensuring alignment with the IB PYP PSPE scope and sequence.
- Communicate and share the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program with stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain a written plan for the effective delivery of school counseling programs based on ISSP goals and aligned with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA), International School Counselor Association (ISCA) Standards, and integrating relevant components from the IB PYP PSPE framework.
- In partnership with the Directors of Welfare and Learning and Teaching oversee the implementation of an Inclusion Policy to meet the IB standards and practices.
- Preventative and Responsive Services:
- Design, implement, and assess the guidance curriculum, incorporating aspects of the IB PYP PSPE scope and sequence including supporting the integration of the Relationship and Sex Education.
- As an active member of the Student Support Team, collaborate and support interventions to address students' needs.
- Utilize responsive counseling by initiating individual and group sessions for students' personal, social, and academic concerns.
- Consult with families and staff to assess student needs and interests, discussing appropriate recommendations for educational options with consideration for the holistic development of students.
- Plan, coordinate, and provide classroom group guidance sessions to meet counseling competencies in academic achievement, educational development, and personal and social development.
- Assess student needs and make referrals to appropriate school resource personnel, social agencies, community agencies, and alternative programs, ensuring a holistic approach.
- Develop and Lead our SOAR Values based approach to supporting our Expected Behaviors.
* Individual Student Planning:
- Prepare students for the transition to the next level including grade level progression and middle school.
- Plan and coordinate programs, celebrations, and other extensions of the counseling program.
- Use individual student planning activities and classroom guidance to assist students in navigating educational and community experiences that support their needs and develop their potential.
- Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with their social and emotional learning.
* System Support:
- Use responsive counseling strategies to establish relationships and collaborate with educators, students, families, and community partners, recognizing and respecting each individual and promoting an understanding and appreciation of diverse populations and cultures.
- Assist families in obtaining services for their children, ensuring they align with the principles of the school.
- Assist teachers in understanding their students, including providing and interpreting student data.
- Provide professional development on topics related to the school counseling program and supporting student achievement, social and emotional development.
* Accountability:
- Use all available data, including academic grades, unexpected behavior notifications, and attendance data, to identify students in need and deliver services, considering holistic development.
- Interpret tests, student data, and other assessment results within the counseling environment for developing and implementing social/emotional and/or academic plans for individual students.
* General:
- Provide any other reasonable duties delegated by the School Management.
- Be familiar with ISSP Health and Safety Policies and ISSP Safeguarding Policies.
- Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and provide After School Activities as required, considering the IB PYP PSPE framework.
