Mô tả công việc

I. Job description
Line Manager: Deputy Head (Pastoral) who is also the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
II. Purpose of the Role
The Prep School Psychologist is responsible for supporting pupils' social, emotional, behavioural, and learning development through proactive, responsive, and evidence-informed practice. The post-holder completes psychological and educational assessments, provides individual and group interventions, promotes whole-school wellbeing, and works collaboratively with staff and families to ensure a coordinated and child-centered approach. The Prep School Psychologist is an approachable and visible presence in the Prep School and wider College community who models positive relationships with pupils and staff alike.
III. Key Responsibilities
1. Monitoring & Early Identification
Observe and monitor pupils' social, emotional, and mental wellbeing in classrooms, playgrounds, and other school settings.
Identify pupils who may require additional assessment or support through observation, staff referrals, and informal screening.
Work proactively with teaching staff to recognise emerging patterns of behaviour or barriers to learning.
Maintain records of concerns, trends, and follow-up actions.
Conduct regular screenings to identify students at risk or experience psychological difficulties.
Inform parents of students' psychological concerns, support goals, intervention plans, and strategies in place for students receiving psychological support.
2. Assessment
Carry out psychological and educational assessments for pupils with learning, behavioural, emotional or social difficulties.
Provide clear written reports outlining strengths, needs and recommendations for both school and families.
Examples may include - educational psychology assessments, needs assessments and learning profiles, suicide risk or threat assessments, non-suicidal self-injury assessments, Social, emotional, and behavioural screening tools.
Have an understanding of the necessary pathways within Vietnam to accessing assessments.
3. Counselling
Provide direct support for pupils experiencing psychological, social, behavioural, or learning difficulties:
Identify concerns and support goals for students requiring psychological intervention.
Develop individual support plans (e.g., behaviour plans, counselling plans, therapy plans).
Develop group intervention plans for students with similar mental health needs e.g. self - regulation, conflict resolution, social skills intervention.
Deliver individual or group interventions aligned with approved plans, ensuring quality and professionalism.
Regularly monitor and adjust intervention activities as needed.
4. Whole-School Wellbeing
Design, set up and deliver proactive wellbeing interventions for pupils and staff such as leading and analysing mental health survey data, running pupil wellbeing groups, delivering staff wellbeing workshops and leading whole staff wellbeing initiatives.
Contribute to the whole school co - curricular activity programme by providing wellbeing focused interventions for pupils.
Provide periodic (monthly) reports on pupil and staff mental health to the School Leadership Team.
5. Consultation
Discuss and work closely with teachers, school staff, parents and experts to make sure that pupils are fully supported to deal with any psychological difficulties and challenges.
Consult with external mental health organisations and specialists to enhance the quality and effectiveness of support.
Support teachers, staff, and parents in addressing behavioural and psychological concerns.
6. Development and Other Tasks
Carry out other duties assigned by the Head of School or Line Manager:
Conduct scientific research on mental health and school-based wellbeing.
Implement and apply new procedures, systems, and measures to improve the quality of psychological services.
Advise policy development and process creation relating to psychological support.
Participate in SPO professional training and system-wide staff training.
Engage in community mental health activities and local wellbeing initiatives.
Attend professional development training in core skills (digital literacy, IT, child protection, communication, school culture, etc.).
Contribute to raising public awareness of school mental health.
You will be expected to work closely with the leadership team and the Heads of EAL, Additional Support, and Pastoral Leads to ensure a multi-agency approach to supporting pupils.
You will also have a keen understanding of safeguarding and work with the Deputy Head (Pastoral) as DSL to ensure that all pupils are always supported and kept safe.
