School Social-Emotional Counselor (Kindergarten Thru Gr. 8) TH School Chua Boc Campus (Vietnamese Citizen)

Position Overview
The K-Grade 8 School Counselor is a key member of the Student Support Services team and plays an important role in promoting the social, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of students. The counselor supports the development of a safe, inclusive, and nurturing school environment where all students feel respected, supported, and empowered to learn and grow.
Working closely with teachers, school leadership, and families, the counselor provides developmentally appropriate counseling, social-emotional learning support, and safeguarding oversight for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. The role focuses on early intervention, preventative wellbeing programs, and collaborative problem-solving to support students' holistic development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student Counseling and Support
● Provide developmentally appropriate counseling support for K-Grade 8 students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, or academic challenges.
● Use solution-focused and strengths-based counseling approaches to help students develop coping strategies, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills.
● Provide short-term, goal-oriented counseling interventions and refer students to external specialists when more intensive support is required.
● Support students during times of transition, stress, or crisis, offering immediate emotional care and guidance.
● Collaborate with teachers and parents to develop and monitor individualized student support strategies.
● Maintain accurate, confidential, and professional records of counseling sessions in accordance with school policy and ethical standards.
2. Social-Emotional Learning and Preventative Programs
● Support the implementation of age-appropriate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs across K-Grade 8.
● Deliver classroom lessons, small group sessions, or workshops that promote:
○ Emotional regulation
○ Positive relationships
○ Conflict resolution
○ Self-awareness and resilience
○ Responsible decision-making
● Work with teachers to integrate wellbeing strategies into daily classroom practices.
● Support initiatives that promote positive student behavior, belonging, and inclusive school culture.
3. Child Safeguarding and Protection
● Support the implementation of the school's child safeguarding and protection policies.
● Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and professional responsibility when responding to safeguarding concerns.
● Work with school leadership to ensure appropriate documentation, monitoring, and reporting of student welfare concerns.
● Collaborate with external professionals, mental health providers, and child protection agencies when necessary.
4. Collaboration with Teachers and Families
● Work collaboratively with teachers to support students' social-emotional and behavioral development.
● Participate in Student Support Team (SST) meetings and multidisciplinary discussions regarding student needs.
● Provide guidance and consultation to teachers regarding classroom strategies for supporting student wellbeing.
● Communicate with parents and guardians to support a shared understanding of student needs and effective support strategies.
5. Wellbeing Education and Community Engagement
● Support initiatives that promote mental health awareness and wellbeing education for students, staff, and parents.
● Contribute to workshops, resources, and communication materials that promote healthy development and positive relationships.
● Promote a school culture that values empathy, respect, inclusion, and student voice.

Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with those normally associated with the position of School Counselor and as assigned by school leadership.
