Language Link is currently seeking a Deputy Academic Manager (DAM) to join our public schools program, Schools Link!

Schools Link is Language Link's highly successful English language education programme in Vietnamese schools. Our Schools Link programme caters to Primary, Secondary and High School students. We currently have more than 180 foreign English teachers teaching over 32,000 students in Hanoi's urban districts. Our programme consistently receives high ratings from students and parents.

Contact Hours

The DAM is contracted to work a 44-hour week on-site, normally over a 5-day week from Monday to Saturday. Work on weekends if required.

Working location

This position is based at 34T Hoang Dao Thuy but with regular travel to Schools Link centres, partner schools or offsite training locations based on the request.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree
At least 2 year experience in in academic management
At least 3 years' Young Learner teaching experience (preferably in public schools)
A CELTA (or equivalent) teaching certificate with teaching practicum

Responsibilities

Provide leadership for the Schools Link teaching team
Be responsible for the academic management KPIs and day-to-day academic management tasks, including ensuring teaching and learning components of the programme are delivered up to standard.
Make regular reports to Schools Link Operation Director and Academic Manager.
Provide overall leadership in the absence of Academic Manager.
Assist in developing/ preparing succession plans for the Regional Head Teacher, Academic Coordinator and DAM positions.

Duties and functions

Management of academic and teaching team
- Work closely with the Academic Manager/ Schools Link Operation Director to develop the yearly academic development plan and write a yearly Action Plan in line with the aims and objectives of Schools Link/ Language Link Vietnam.
- Provide teaching team with academic management and support.
- Provide leadership in induction, training, mentoring, observing, managing, supporting, and organizing a growing team of expat English teachers and Vietnamese teacher assistants.
- Develop and maintain a reliable system to monitor the quality of the teaching team and the programme.
- Provide good control system over all professional/ and discipline issues e.g. code of conduct, teachers' dress code, punctuality, behaviour, good rapport, good lesson plan, standard lessons.
- Provide Coaching and Mentoring of academic staff and teachers to ensure professional dialogues are happening across the Schools Link.
- Develop, implement and maintain on-going teacher development.
- Develop and conduct teacher workshops at schools to maintain and improve teaching quality.
- Carries out Appraisals for reviewing the performance of all academic staff with appropriate target setting and monitoring.
Curriculum and Academic development
- Oversee and develop an appropriate program and curriculum including extra curriculum for Primary to High school sectors. This includes:
  - selecting appropriate course books and implementing curricula;
  - developing daily and weekly lesson guides (pacing guides);
  - Liaise with VNC team to develop grammar content to help students with state exams (with support from VNC team);
  - developing supplementary materials of high interest to learners;
  - demo teaching;
  - developing an ongoing improvement process with regular course review and modification to better meet changing requirements from partner schools and Department of Education and Training (DOET).
- Ensure that quality Teaching and Learning at the highest standard.
- Design placement tests/ progress tests/ and final tests for schools (primary, secondary and high schools) or special test (as requested).
Academic administration/ Operation management:
- Coordinate with Teacher Recruitment Team/ Teacher recruiters to recruit qualified teachers for the projects.
- Responsible for the teacher allocation.
- Work closely with schedulers of the project and at schools to make sure teachers are allocated most effectively in line with their skills and experience.
- Be involved in building relationship between Language Link, partner schools, government, and other related parties with coordination and support from Business Development head if required.
- Be involved in marketing activities or parents meeting.
- Work closely with the Operation team dealing with customers' complain (students, parents, schools).
- Work closely with the Operation team dealing with regular and irregular inspections from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and the Department of Education and Training (DOET).
- Suggest an Academic Management Team/structure that meets the changing needs of the SL program while being cost effective.
- Check and give inputs on the teachers' contracts.
