Job Description
SmartOSC is seeking a Senior Bridge Software Engineer (BrSE) to act as the critical link between our Japanese clients and our offshore development teams in Vietnam. You will combine strong engineering judgment with high-level Japanese communication to ensure requirements, technical decisions, and deliverables flow smoothly and accurately in both directions.
Key Deliverables & Responsibilities
- Act as the technical and communication bridge between Japanese clients and the offshore development team.
- Gather, clarify, and document requirements directly with Japanese stakeholders, then translate them into clear technical specifications for the offshore team.
- Review and communicate technical solutions, estimates, and trade-offs to clients in Japanese.
- Coordinate day-to-day delivery - task breakdown, progress tracking, issue resolution - between client and team.
- Conduct and support design reviews, code reviews, and quality checks to ensure deliverables meet client expectations.
- Manage and translate technical documentation (specs, test cases, reports) between Japanese and English/Vietnamese.
- Identify and escalate risks early; propose practical solutions to keep delivery on track.
Requirements
- 4+ years in software development, with at least 2 years in a BrSE or client-facing engineering role for Japanese projects.
- Business-level Japanese (JLPT N2 or above; N1 preferred) - able to discuss technical topics, requirements, and issues directly with Japanese clients.
- Good hands-on engineering background in one or more of: [Java /.NET / PHP / JavaScript / mobile / etc.], with the ability to read code and understand system architecture.
- Strong grasp of the full software development lifecycle and common methodologies (Agile/Scrum, Waterfall).
- Excellent communication, documentation, and coordination skills across cultures and time zones.
Nice to have:
- Experience working or living in Japan.
- Familiarity with [specific tech stack / domain relevant to the client].
- Prior experience transitioning into a PM or team lead track
