POSITION PURPOSE
The Teaching Assistant will provide academic and School support across the School of Computing and Innovative Technologies, with particular support for the Computer Science and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DS&AI) programmes.
The postholder will assist teaching faculty and Programme Leads with practical classes, workshops, student projects, learning materials, student guidance, and the organisation of academic activities. The role will also contribute to the School's programme engagement, student recruitment, communications, and events by supporting presentations, campus activities, programme showcases, and the preparation of clear and professional digital materials.
The postholder will work closely with teaching faculty, Programme Leads, the Head of the School, Marketing, Student Recruitment, and other relevant colleagues to support a positive student experience and the effective presentation and operation of the School's programmes.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Teaching and Learning Support
  • Assist teaching faculty with practical classes, workshops, laboratories, demonstrations, and student project activities across the School.
  • Support students with the use of relevant computing, data, and digital tools within the postholder's knowledge and experience.
  • Help prepare, organise, and distribute learning materials, equipment, and digital resources for teaching activities.
  • Assist teaching faculty in supervising student work and providing basic feedback or guidance as directed.
  • Identify routine issues affecting student learning or teaching delivery and report them to the relevant teaching faculty member or Programme Lead.
  • Support the review and improvement of learning materials and practical activities when requested.
Student Guidance and Support
  • Provide basic guidance on study practices, time management, use of learning resources, and project organisation.
  • Encourage student participation and help create a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
  • Respond to routine student questions within the scope of the role and direct academic, personal, or sensitive matters to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Observe student engagement during supported activities and inform teaching faculty when a student may require additional academic or pastoral support.
School Engagement, Communications, and Events
  • Support programme presentations, campus tours, open days, educational fairs, student showcases, and other School events.
  • Provide accurate general information about the Computer Science and DS&AI programmes, student projects, learning activities, facilities, and student experience to prospective students, parents, visitors, and other stakeholders, using approved University information.
  • Prepare and update simple presentation slides, programme information, posters, photographs, and digital materials for School activities.
  • Coordinate with Marketing and Student Recruitment colleagues by providing programme updates, event information, student achievements, and suitable content when requested.
  • Assist with event preparation, including room setup, materials, registration support, basic documentation, and follow-up tasks.
  • Support communication with schools, educational consultants, industry contacts, alumni, and other external stakeholders when requested by the Head of the School or Programme Lead.
Administrative and Operational Support
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to the Head of the School, Programme Leads, and teaching faculty for academic and School activities.
  • Maintain organised records of learning materials, event resources, content requests, and follow-up actions.
  • Assist with the coordination of external visits, industry engagement activities, alumni activities, and other School initiatives.
  • Report faults, risks, equipment issues, or concerns about the learning environment to the appropriate colleague.
  • Undertake other related duties that are consistent with the level and purpose of the role and support the academic mission of BUV.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Essential Competencies: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A bachelor's degree from a recognised institution in Computing, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Practical knowledge of computing and digital technologies relevant to supporting students in Computer Science, DS&AI, or related computing programmes.
  • Good working knowledge of Python and an understanding of data analysis, programming, databases, or other relevant computing areas.
  • The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to students with different levels of prior knowledge.
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills in English. Vietnamese language ability is required for occasional communication with local students, parents, and stakeholders.
  • Good presentation skills and confidence speaking with students, parents, colleagues, and visitors.
  • Good proficiency with common office, presentation, online learning, and collaboration tools.
  • Good organisation, reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to meet agreed deadlines.
  • A positive, student-centred approach and the ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching faculty, Programme Leads, and professional services colleagues.
  • Willingness to always support School events and programme engagement activities as part of the role.

Desirable Competencies
  • Previous experience as a teaching assistant, tutor, mentor, trainer, or student-support assistant.
  • Familiarity with data science or AI tools and libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Experience creating simple presentation materials, posters, photographs, or digital content.
  • Experience supporting educational events, open days, campus tours, or student recruitment activities.

Work Environment, Health, and Safety

Where the role involves laboratories, specialist equipment, events, or external visits, the postholder must follow relevant safety instructions, report hazards or equipment issues promptly, and take reasonable care of their own safety and the safety of others.
