User experience (UX) Specialist (Senior Associate)

The user experience specialist ensures that the website and wider web presence of a set of online information/transactional services are optimised for the needs of their users, ensuring they are helpful, engaging and easy to use.

They will lead on all user experience activities for the implementation of the this set of services, working closely with service management, Product development and delivery teams, and content, design and development teams to produce information architectures, user interface designs and to shape content strategies. They will develop a deep understanding of user and customer needs, conducting primary research and working closely with the service teams and the sector intelligence team to access other sources of research and information that helps to paint a better picture of the users of our websites and various platforms and services and their requirements.

Report to: Board of Management

Key responsibilities:

• Ensuring that the user experience is maintained and preferably enhanced as content and services that currently sit on separate websites are brought onto the VCSC website and various platforms.
• Providing help and advice to owners of associate sites to develop their sites and services in accordance with user experience best practice.
• Working closely with service teams, lead on primary research activities around the web presence of VCSC and its services, interviewing and testing out designs on users and stakeholders, drawing conclusions on user behaviour from secondary sources such as web analytics, customer surveys and customer personas.
• Designing information architectures, user interfaces (UI), page templates and functionality that meets user and business needs and are simple and a delight to use.
• Develop user stories and use them effectively as a key tool in UI and functional design.
  Contribute to the production of effective and user-friendly microcopy throughout the VCSC website and various platforms and web presence.

Requirements:

• A qualification in a relevant field, such as human-computer interaction, or equivalent professional experience in a UX-focused role. Working experience in securities/banking field is an advantage.
• Excellent knowledge and practical experience of user-centred design
• Excellent knowledge of modern UI design patterns, including responsive design and 'mobile first' strategies.
• Good awareness of the capabilities and potential of modern web languages and tools, such as HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery.
• Good understanding of the principles of web accessibility.
• Experience of working with a web content management system.
• Significant, hands-on experience of conducting primary user research, including telephone and face-to-face interviews, generative research, user testing and facilitating the use of online tools, such as OptimalSort.
• Excellent research, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to present ideas succinctly and clearly and to communicate with and influence staff at all levels.
