Role Description The Vietnamese OPI/VRI Interpreter is responsible for providing consecutive interpretation between Vietnamese and English via telephone (OPI) and video (VRI) in a remote, full-time capacity. Day-to-day tasks include accurately conveying messages between parties, maintaining the tone and intent of the speaker, and adhering to industry standards of confidentiality and neutrality. The interpreter will handle calls and video sessions across various sectors such as healthcare, customer service, legal, and public services, ensuring clear and culturally appropriate communication.
The role involves following established protocols, managing scheduled and on-demand interpreting sessions, documenting basic session details, and collaborating with internal teams to support continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications
Strong bilingual proficiency in Vietnamese and English, with excellent listening, speaking, and comprehension skills in both languages.
Solid interpreting abilities, including consecutive interpretation, note-taking, and accurate transfer of meaning, tone, and register.
Knowledge of professional interpreter ethics, including confidentiality, impartiality, and role boundaries, and familiarity with cross-cultural communication.
Comfort working with telephonic and video platforms, basic troubleshooting skills, and ability to manage remote sessions using digital tools.
Effective communication skills, including clear diction, professional telephone and video etiquette, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Previous experience in OPI/VRI, community, medical, or legal interpreting is preferred; relevant interpreter training or certification is an advantage.
Reliable high-speed internet connection, a quiet and private workspace, and ability to work full time on a consistent schedule.
High school diploma or equivalent required; further education in linguistics, translation, interpretation, or related fields is beneficial.
