Visual Arts Specialist Teacher

* Position Objective
- Informed by the IB Primary Years Program, the Visual Arts Specialist is responsible for sustaining a thriving Visual Arts program for all students from Early Years 3 to Grade 5.

* Responsibilities
- The Visual Arts Specialist's main responsibility is to provide direct instruction related to skills students need in relation to Responding, Creating and Performing from Early Years (age 3) to Grade 5 (age 11).
- The effectiveness of this role is reliant on ongoing collaborative planning with teachers and leaders to facilitate the development and implementation of the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) with the aim to support conceptually framed inquiry, student agency and strong skill development.
- The Visual Arts Specialist will work with the Specialist Team and the PYP Coordinator to ensure a balanced Transdisciplinary or Disciplinary approach to the Visual Arts across the IB PYP Program of Inquiry.
* Roles and Responsibilities Summary:
1. Educational Role:
- Through Art the position requires the implementation of the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) to support conceptually framed inquiry, student agency, and strong skills development.
- Ensures the implementation is documented and planned in accordance with ISSP and IB PYP expectations.
- Takes an interactive role in the classroom by utilizing a variety of teaching strategies to support learning.
- Build on students' knowledge, to differentiate and extend the diverse learning needs of all students.
- Utilizes data to inform teaching practices.
- In alignment with school policy, assesses and reports on student achievement in different mediums of art.
- Supports the school to evidence learning and teaching to meet the (2020) IB Standards and Practices and Council of International Schools (CIS) Evaluation expectations.
2. Relationships:
- Maintain a well-managed and ordered classroom environment that reflects the 5 core values of the school.
- Foster supportive, trusting and positive relationships with all members of the ISSP community.
- Collaborate with peers for collegial and professional planning, emphasizing the transdisciplinary nature of the IB Primary Years Program (PYP).
3. Extended Professional Role:
- Contribute to the school's team spirit by promoting ISSP philosophy and policies.
- Take responsibility for the class during emergencies and supervise children during break/lunch and unstructured times.
- Ensure the safety and security of students at all times.
- Maintain regular, positive communication with parents through meetings,Toddle, reports, and conferences.
4. Parents:
- To contribute and participate in our range of reporting modes to keep families informed of student progress.
- Engage parents as advocates of the ISSP Visual Arts program.
- Use ISSP school communication channels to promote and provide evidence of student progress, learning, special events and performances.
5. General:
- Fulfill any other reasonable duties delegated by the School Management.
- Adhere to ISSP Health and Safety Policies and Safeguarding Policies.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
The job holder's responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person's for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School's Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of indeed to the Regional CEP so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third part services.
