School Overview
True North International School (TNIS) is a Hanoi-based K-12 international school that offers Bilingual and International Tracks in its third year with 260 students. TNIS offers a rigorous American curriculum aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS), fostering critical thinking and STEM skills through its WASC-accredited and STEM-focused programs. Additionally, students can pursue Advanced Placement (AP) courses, preparing them for university-level studies.
Role Description
The Head of School is responsible for the management and day-to-day operations of the school. The Head of School reports to the Board of Managers (BOM). The Head of School serves as chief executive of the school and has the authority to carry out his or her responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the BOM. In partnership with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the BOM, the Head of School is responsible for the success of the school. S/he provides direction for developing the organization's vision, mission, and strategy; provides leadership for establishing and implementing its annual goals and objectives; enables the Board to fulfill its legal, fiduciary and moral responsibilities.
Responsibilities & Duties
Develop and execute a comprehensive branding strategy to enhance the school's brand image and recognition.
Organize meetings, manage calendar events, and take detailed notes of discussions and meetings.
Develop programs for enabling school students and families to meet academic goals.
Works with BOM to oversee the growth of the school to its full capacity with grades K-12
Ensure Annual Progress meetings and execute programs to conform academic success.
Establish policies as per School's performance management, succession planning and staffing requirements.
Handle expenditures and budget with Schools Finance to satisfy financial obligations.
Encourage schools in the community and foster relationships within charter school networks.
Attend meetings and represent K12 and school from a legal perspective.
Create and manage attractive, organized, functional, healthy and safe facilities giving attention to visual and acoustic.
Responsible for employees and visitors' health, safety and welfare.
Establish procedures and regular drills for emergencies and disasters.
Hire, employ and establish outstanding faculty for academic excellence, integrity, and moral character;
Provide ongoing professional development opportunities to support faculty growth and effectiveness.
Lead school's voice and face in area community and educational associations to market school's wellbeing.
Support school start-up activities like presentations to referral sources and parents.
Oversee school activities to ensure educational goals and outcome fulfillment in alignment with WASC accreditation expectations.
Support accreditation process with growth of new schools.
Works with Board to ensure financing to support short- and long-term goals
Foster community and stakeholder engagement, offering consistent and compassionate support to students, parents, and referral sources to build strong relationships.
Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the leadership, administration and supervision of a K12 School; knowledge of and commitment to a college preparatory environment;
Thorough knowledge of the international schools strategic plan, goals, and objectives for student outcomes;
Thorough knowledge of the framework for curriculum and learning plans and knowledge of a balanced assessment system; thorough knowledge of prescribed board policies and procedures;
Skill in oral and written communications; strong leadership skills, including conflict resolution and change management abilities; ability to motivate others to reach their fullest potential; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, students, parents, teachers, support staff and associates.
Experience in AP programs and speaking English and Vietnamese or Korean will be a plus.
