Associate Specialist - Supply Chain Operations(Transportation)
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Associate Specialist - Supply Chain Transportation to manage and optimize transportation operations across India. The role will be responsible for transportation planning, 3PL partner management, cost optimization, service performance, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will have 8-12 years of experience in transportation and logistics in India, with significant experience working with third-party contract logistics companies, transporters, and logistics service providers.
The candidate should have strong commercial and operational understanding of the Indian transportation landscape, including FTL/LTL, primary and secondary transportation, distribution, route optimization, freight management, vendor performance, and logistics cost management.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Operations
- Manage and oversee day-to-day transportation operations across assigned regions in India.
- Develop and execute transportation strategies aligned with business and customer requirements.
- Ensure timely, cost-effective, and reliable movement of goods across the supply chain.
- Manage primary and secondary transportation activities, including FTL, LTL and other transportation modes as applicable.
- Drive route optimization, vehicle utilization and load consolidation initiatives.
- Monitor transportation capacity and ensure availability during peak and seasonal demand periods.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
3PL & Logistics Partner Management
- Manage relationships with contract logistics partners, transporters and other logistics service providers.
- Define and monitor service-level agreements (SLAs), KPIs and performance metrics for logistics partners.
- Conduct regular performance reviews with 3PL and transportation partners.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives with logistics partners to improve service, cost and operational efficiency.
- Support onboarding, evaluation and development of new logistics partners.
- Resolve escalations related to service failures, capacity constraints, damages, delays and other operational issues.
Transportation Cost & Commercial Management
- Monitor and manage transportation spend across the assigned network.
- Identify opportunities for freight cost reduction and productivity improvement.
- Analyze transportation rates, lane costs, vehicle utilization and freight trends.
- Support annual rate negotiations, RFQs/RFPs and commercial negotiations with logistics partners.
- Ensure compliance with agreed contractual rates and commercial terms.
Performance Management & Analytics
- Track and report transportation KPIs such as:
- On-Time Delivery (OTD)
- On-Time Pickup
- Freight Cost / Shipment
- Cost per KM / Cost per Unit
- Vehicle Utilization
- Fill Rate
- Transit Time
- Damage / Loss
- Detention / Waiting Time
- 3PL SLA compliance
- Develop dashboards and regular management reports to highlight performance, trends and improvement opportunities.
- Use data and analytics to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement transportation process improvements across the network.
- Drive initiatives related to route optimization, network optimization, load consolidation, digital transportation management and automation.
- Benchmark logistics practices and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
- Work cross-functionally with Warehouse, Procurement, Planning, Customer Service, Finance and Commercial teams.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure transportation operations comply with applicable Indian regulations, company policies and contractual requirements.
- Monitor documentation, statutory compliance, insurance and other transportation-related requirements and develop mitigation plans.
- Support audits and compliance reviews of logistics partners.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations, Business Administration, Engineering or a related discipline.
- 8-12 years of relevant experience in transportation, logistics or supply chain.
- Strong experience in the Indian logistics and transportation market.
- Proven experience working with 3PL / third-party contract logistics providers.
- Experience managing transporters, logistics service providers and external vendors.
- Strong understanding of FTL, LTL, primary/secondary transportation, distribution and freight management.
- Experience in transportation cost management, vendor negotiations and logistics performance management.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong experience with Excel and data analysis; exposure to TMS, ERP, or other supply chain systems is preferred.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Preferred Experience

- Managing large-scale 3PL transportation networks in India.
