Library work
• Assist and support the Head Librarian in their aim to create a community of readers and empower individuals with free and easy access to information and ideas.
• Prepare materials and resources requested by the Head Librarian and Assistant Librarian.
• Help students set up for and clear up after library lessons.
• Encourage students to keep the library tidy.
• Ensure the library environment is safe, organised and tidy throughout the school year.
• Be responsible for classes in the library in the absence of the Head Librarian or Assistant Librarian.
• Contribute ideas to planning library lessons, library activities and whole school events involving the library.
• Work with individual or small groups of students with guidance from the Head Librarian or Assistant Librarian.
• Check and refill library resources e.g. pens, pencils, glue sticks, tissues, hand sanitiser
• Assist the Head Librarian and Assistant Librarian in library displays.
• Escort sick or injured children to the school nurse when necessary.
• Observe students in their learning and provide feedback to the Head Librarian and Assistant Librarian to support assessment and next steps.
• Implement the school's behaviour management strategies.
• Act as a role model for students.
• Create a welcoming and well organised library space for all students, parents and staff.
• Open and close the library on time.
• Process new library materials when deliveries are received.
• Manage the library systems: check in and out, renew, overdue books, holds, etc.
• Shelve and re-shelve books daily.
• Reallocate book sections when needed.
• Assist students, teachers, parents in browsing for books and how to use the library databases to search for books.
• Support library events or reading promotional programmes for the whole school.
• Filter and weed books when necessary.
• Process library requests from all departments.
• Maintain and preserve all library books.
• Carry out the book inventory report annually.
• Contact parents and students on the issue of lost books or overdue books.
• Take care of the library equipment, furniture and space and report any issues on time (e.g. a leak, broken chair or tables, issues with IT equipment)
• When on duty during Summer School, be responsible for all library tasks and carry out other requests from the Summer School Director.
Other Duties
• Supervise students in the library during break, rest and lunch times.
• Maintain student discipline in and beyond the library according to the school policy.
• Participate in relevant training being provided in the school programme.
• Present a professional and welcoming image in the library and around the school.
• Liaise with, or translate for, parents as necessary to assist colleagues.
• Politely pass conversations with parents regarding student learning and reading progress to the Head Librarian and/or class teachers.
• Assist with translation for parent evenings and school events when required.
• Complete any other reasonable task assigned by the senior leadership team.

• Able to bend, lift and carry out physical work
• Good at completing routine tasks and also ready to be flexible and adaptable
• Have a friendly attitude and like helping people
