Overview
President is Headway's highest executive position. The president is responsible for making decisions regarding the team's operations and directions, anticipating and resolving problems that can hinder progress, as well as setting the goals and culture of the team. The president also helps shape Headway's long-term goal and strategies along with the Board of Directors (BoD) and serves as a liaison between the BoD and the core team. Most importantly, the president links the team together, cultivates team spirit, motivates team members as well as supports them to not only achieve Headway's vision but also their personal goals.
Scope of work
Set monthly goals and deliverables for the organization along with the BoD
Along with directors, decide on specific programs, timeline and tasks to be accomplished for each team on both long and short term bases
Check in with team heads regularly (weekly or bi-weekly) to track progress
Team heads are in charge of the everyday operation of their teams and will report any progress as well as discuss future plans with the president.
The president should offer feedback on whether the current team activity is on track with the overarching goals and identify any areas for improvement.
Represent Headway in external-facing efforts such as mentor recruitment and training, grant applications, media interviews, etc.
Help conceptualize and attend team bonding events
Recruit and train new directors (as needed) and the succeeding president
Preferred skills and requirement
An ideal candidate for this position will have the following characteristics:
Understanding of and commitment to Headway's vision and goals
Team building skills: the candidate should be willing to connect with their teammates and create connection among the team as a whole through online means.
Communicativeness: the candidate should be able to clearly communicate with team members both regarding everyday tasks and larger vision.
Willingness to learn and accept criticism: Headway encourages team members to exchange ideas and learn from each other, so the candidate should be actively seeking feedback from team members and making changes to Headway's programs, trajectories, as necessary.
Availability: the candidate should be able to devote 10-15 hours per week to Headway. The working hours are flexible.
Commitment: the term for president is 12 months, starting October 1, 2021 and finishing October 1, 2022. This term is renewable.
