Under the general direction of the Outdoor Programs Manager or Director of Programs, Outdoor Adventure Supervisor (OAS) is accountable for the following; facilitating Hiking, Mountain Biking, Challenge Course, Climbing Wall, and off-site Rock Climbing programs, maintaining all Hiking, Mountain Biking, Challenge Course, Climbing Wall, and off-site Rock Climbing equipment. The OAS will be required to perform/facilitate monthly inspections on climbing wall and quarterly inspections of the challenge course. The OAS will be required to supervise training and team development, curriculum development, handle/report guest relations issues, decision making, and administrative/supervisory responsibilities as needed on a daily basis for the Outdoor Adventure Department.

Required Qualifications:
Facilitation and problem solving skills vital.

Ability to communicate effectively and work as a team player.
Excellent presentation and teaching skills.
Computer skills in Excel, Windows, Microsoft Word and V1.
Climbing ability and comfortable working at heights of 35-50ft to include traversing cables.
Regional knowledge of outdoor venues and resources.
Technical rock climbing experience required, comfortable climbing up to 5.9 on top rope and familiar with Mount Lemmon Climbing Sites (Windy Point, Ridge Line, and Prison Camp).
Hike 3-4 mile/hour pace, miles ranging from 2-14 miles traveled.
Mountain biking, 10-15 mile/hour pace, miles ranging from 5-20 miles traveled.
Bachelor degree encouraged.
Proficient knowledge of Miraval Philosophy and Mindfulness Applications.
5+ years' experience in facilitation and/or guiding outdoor adventure programs.
5 years technical rock climbing and/or guiding experience (top rope up to 5.9)
5 years guiding experience hiking and mountain biking.
5 years' experience in facilitation of High and Low Ropes Elements preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and interpret retail product labeling. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitating Programs/Maintain Equipment - Hiking, Mountain Biking, Climbing Wall, and Off-site Climbing Programs.
Provide leadership and assume lead on hiking, mountain biking, challenge course and climbing programs.
Lead client/groups of 1-8 on daily instructional mountain biking activities.
Lead client/groups of 1-12 on daily hiking activities.
Instruct 1-6 client/guests on daily climbing wall activities.
Lead and instruct 1-9 client/guests on off property rock climbing activities.
Facilitate client/groups of 1-6 on daily Slackline programs.
Facilitate client/groups of 1-8 on daily Archery programs.
Facilitate programs for corporate and social groups in hiking, mountain biking, climbing, challenge course and team building activities.
Oversee bike maintenance.
Assist quarterly Inspection and maintenance of climbing wall and challenge course.
Maintain all equipment related to the offsite rock climbing program.
Provide guests with 1:1 hiking/mountain biking/climbing programs.
Facilitating Programs/Maintain Equipment - Challenge Course High and Low Ropes Elements
Provide leadership and facilitation of all Challenge Course programs.
Facilitate client/groups of 1-8 on daily Challenge Course High Ropes programs.
Facilitate client/groups of 1-12+ on Challenge Course Low Ropes programs.
Facilitate corporate/social groups in all Challenge Course programs.
Maintain all Challenge Course High and Low Ropes elements and equipment.
Provide guests with 1:1 Challenge Course programs.
Training and Team Development/Curriculum Development
Conduct briefings and debriefings with of OAD on a daily basis.
Assist Manager in interviewing potential team members.
Assist Outdoor Adventure team members with all aspects of training and development.
Assist Outdoor Adventure team members with technical (hard) and facilitation (soft) skills and keep team informed of requirements and changes.
Assist OPM in the development of new outdoor adventure programs.
Assist OPM in curriculum changes and improvements to existing programs.
Assist OPM with risk management reporting to enhance safety operations and develop standards for the department.
Administrative
Assist in creating guides' weekly schedule
Assist in creating OA programming for the monthly guide
Track and maintain weekly and daily guide duty logs
Track and enter guest participation numbers.
Track and enter guest participation for the maintenance of National Forest Service permits.
Track the maintenance/monthly inspections of the Climbing Wall.
Maintain Miraval Rope Logs.
Assist OPM with all purchasing as it relates to Outdoor Adventure Department
Assist OPM in reviewing and updating training manuals and documents.
Monitor first aid supplies; responsible for purchasing and updating supplies.
Assist OPM in organizing and facilitating department meetings.
Pursue professional development opportunities for Outdoor Adventure Staff
Monitor emails and private requests, providing prompt responses to both.
Respond to guest complaints.
Perform any duties as assigned by the OPM or Director of Programs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assist OPM in 90-day and yearly evaluations/assist with notes of conversation and all disciplinary actions.
Supervise staff in the absence of the department manager.
Decision making with the best interest of the department and of Miraval.
Attend program meetings in the absence of the department manager.
Success Factors:
Physical Demands:
The OA Supervisor must be able to hike for extended periods, maintaining a 3 to 4 mile hour pace, and do so on average 6-12 miles/day, several days per week. Must be proficient mountain biker maintaining 10-15 mile per hour pace averaging 5-15 miles/day, several days per week. Rock climbing experience required, able to tope rope up to 5.9.
The OA Supervisor must be able to carry and climb ladders of 10-12ft and transition to climb poles upwards of 50ft and be comfortable traversing cables of 35-50ft in height and length. Must be able to walk, stand, and belay for extended periods and do so on average 4-6 hours/day several days per week. Must be technically proficient with ropes, helmets, harnesses, hardware, and several belay techniques.
Working Conditions:
The OA Supervisor is exposed to seasonal temperatures, both hot and cold. Activities are operated from mornings to afternoons and sometimes evenings. All activities are facilitated in the outdoors.
