This person runs operationally unit safety activies; is the unit management representative for safety and main link to KONE global safety team. This person drives continuous improvement of safety performance and supports global/area/unit leadership teams in implementing, maintaining and continually improving the KONE Way for Safety. Besides, for Quality, this person is responsible for managing and continuously improving quality performance of his/her area of responsibility in line with targets; drives the development, implementation and follow-up of our processes, methods, and systems to analyze our Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other performance measurement metrics or review results and improve our business performance. S/he enables KONE to build Quality into our processes and develop proactive Quality culture and mindset through increased competences, collaboration, communication, and best business practice sharing Responsibilities and key activities.
Safety policy and objectives
  • Implement, maintain and improve KONE safety management system (operating model) including worker, user and third party safety
  • Set objectives, roles and responsibilities for safety
  • Demonstrate ownership of safety by role-modelling
  • Cultivate an understanding and actively caring culture for safety
  • Provide professional support, drive management commitment and active worker participation
  • Establish, manage and develop unit safety committee and other safety forums
  • Participate in and contribute to global safety team meetings
  • Compile, maintain and improve safety documentation and monitor usage
  • Initiate and implement programmes and activities to improve safety
  • Integrate and work closely with customers and partners in the safety management
  • Support the development, review and exercise of crisis and emergency response plans
Safety risk management
  • Ensure use of and continually improve safety risk management processes, tools and practices
  • Support or lead safety related change management projects and initiatives
Safety assurance
  • Produce safety data, ensure accuracy and develop indicators. Evaluate and report performance
  • Monitor legal and business environment development in safety, identify and initiate actions
  • Perform and manage safety audits to verify compliance, identify uncontrolled risks and deviations
  • Assist line management in safety audits/visits and continually improve the auditing process
  • Set safety targets, goals and plan with unit leadership and global safety function
  • Develop annual safety budget in line with global budgeting guidelines
  • Manage incident investigations and continually improve the investigation process
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions for continual improvement of safety
Safety promotion
  • Maintain and develop one's own competences and the safety team
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of safety competences in the unit
  • Establish, maintain and improve safety communication processes, programmes and materials
  • Represent KONE to external stakeholders in safety matters under the direction of the unit head
Quality management
  • Promotes, with Unit/function management, recognition and conformance to customer and KONE requirements.
  • Collaborates with KONE Way process owners // operating model owners and change managers to ensure the continual improvement and implementation of KONE Way in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Is responsible for collecting data for business performance reviews.
  • Assures that functional and operational leaders and teams globally and locally analyze, develop, and execute continuous quality improvements based on performance data and proactively gathers and analyses other relevant data to identify continuous improvement opportunities in the processes in full chain// end-to-end.
  • Demonstrates how ownership of quality should be done in KONE, so that others can see this example.
Continual improvement
  • Drives progress and monitors effectiveness of continuous improvement projects, corrective and preventative actions which are being logged within the organization and provides direction and support where needed.
  • Drives continuous reduction of Cost of Poor Quality
  • Facilitates and evaluates the implementation and contributes to the development of the Management System (QEHS), monitors its performance, and combines its management with other management systems, such as environment and safety.
  • Is responsible for planning, execution, and follow-up of audits as tool for assuring process compliance and identifying areas for process performance and improvement.
  • Leads and supports any required corrective actions required due to non-conformance.
  • Ensures that, in his/her area of responsibility, the management practices are in place as defined in the Continual improvement policy e.g., operations reviews, QIT meetings, development portfolio reviews etc.
Job Requirement
  • M.Sc., Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in relevant field
  • 5+ years of working experience in safety, preferably in industrial sector
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English and unit language
  • Experience of working in international and multicultural environment and/or company
  • Good knowledge of Quality tools, methods, systems
  • Practical knowledge on safety at work
  • Management System processes (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001), quality tools, audit, and certification experience
  • Product /process management experience
  • Project management skills
  • Change management skills
