COUNSELLOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1, Leadership and Management
Lead Counselling across the school including responsibility for the school policy and staff training
Deputy Child Protection Officer and sit as a member of the Child Protection Committee
Keep up to date with latest developments, practices and procedures related to counselling
Keep abreast of local laws pertaining to counselling related issues and child protection
2, Administration and Communication
To write information for reports or documentation and share with teachers as required across the whole school
To keep detailed confidential counsellor records for children receiving 1:1 counselling
Communicate with parents as and when necessary
To collaborate in the writing of relevant whole school policies as needed
To actively make, maintain links and liaise with external support agencies
3, Main Responsibilities:
Support students both 1:1 and in groups with their individual social and emotional needs
Be available for students to drop in as and when required
Guide and inform students regarding mental health
Liaise with teachers to provide specific support for students who require it
Meet with parents to discuss support
Provide training opportunities for school staff and parents to learn more about psychological first aid and counselling issues
Research & build up the documents system of psychological aid service
Diversify the school counselling materials & PR about the psychological aid service
Provide semina about discussions about age-mindedness, adolescent behavior, and gender-related topics among students
Keep abreast of and disseminate good practice across the school
LEARNING SUPPORT RESPONSIBILITIES:
1, Teaching and Learning
Support specific students with their Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Action Plans, Behaviour Management Plans (BMPs) as directed by the Special Needs Coordinator or Heads of School.
Ensure each child's learning by teaching the required support to groups or individuals in an appropriate manner.
Work in collaboration with other teachers, Heads of Department and Heads of Key Stage as required.
Differentiate work as necessary to meet the differing ability needs of the children.
Acknowledge that English is not necessarily the native language of all children in the class and adapt his/her vocabulary accordingly.
Ensure that all work is marked meaningfully, promptly and clearly and that corrections are undertaken where necessary.
Ensure homework is given appropriately where and when necessary.
2. Planning
Prepare appropriately to support the needs of the child(ren) and in consultation with class teachers
Participate in the development and review of school policies where necessary
Attend team and staff meetings as required
3. Assessment
Keep clear records of any levels, grades or marks attained by each child in classroom tests/assessments
Keep the Heads of Key Stage and Heads of Department informed of progress and results of assessments
Use results of assessments to inform future grouping and planning, to measure progress and to justify judgements.
4. Classroom Management
Ensure that the classroom atmosphere is conducive to learning
Provide an environment in which the children feel safe, confident and happy to learn and are always supervised.
Have displays that stimulate learning.
Ensure that children are collected and sent back promptly from Learning Support sessions.
Insist on good levels of behavior, both in and out of the classroom.
GENERAL
To promote information to help relevant procedures/policies are followed by staff
Making a positive contribution to the development of the school
Actively supporting the ethos of the school
Supervise children in the play areas at break times according to the duty rota.
Serve as a role model to the children in terms of behaviour, dress, attitude and manners .
Participate in the Extra Curricular Activities programme and occasional events beyond the school day.
Comply with any reasonable requests made by the Leadership Team
Actively support and adhere to the Child Protection Policy, including attending annual training

● Should enjoy working with children and young people
● Should be highly trustworthy, honest and dependable
● Should be willing to learn about the Ontario curriculum and how schools operate.
● Should be proactive, positive, approachable and well organized.
● Should have a good command of spoken and written English language.
● Should show a willingness to be involved in the life of the school over and above the prescribed role.
Work Experience
● 2 years of professional experience is desired yet not essential.
● Previous experience of working in an international school is desired yet not essential.
● Experience of working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
Minimum Academic/Professional Qualifications:
● Graduate degree or above plus teaching qualification.
