Senior PHP Developer SQL

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior PHP Developer to take on a critical role in maintaining, analyzing, and modernizing our established backend systems. This position offers a unique challenge to dive deep into an existing platform to ensure its stability while strategically planning and executing its technological evolution. You will be a key player in solving current business problems and shaping the future technical direction of our products.

This position is responsible for:

• Take lead responsibility for understanding the current system architecture and source code developing with an old PHP framework.
• Analyze, debug, and resolve complex issues within the existing PHP codebase to ensure business continuity.
• Lead the analysis and propose viable, data-driven solutions for modernizing the platform, recommending new frameworks/technologies, architectural patterns.
• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure backend services, APIs, and business logic.
• Integrate with various payment gateways and processors, including ACH, credit/debit cards processing, and digital wallets like Google Pay/Apple Pay.
• Collaborate with product managers and clients to refine requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Implementing with high-quality, clean source code, comprehensive unit tests, managing code through version control, and participating in peer code reviews.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation for the existing system and future enhancements.
• Mentoring skills, providing technical guidance/design is a plus.
• Manage all development stages from initial specification and design through to integration, release, and ongoing maintenance. Follow tightly the Agile methodology.
  

Core Development:

• Extensive experience in commercial software development with a strong focus on backend PHP systems.
• Expert-level proficiency in PHP and a deep understanding of its core principles.
• Proficiency with Azure SQL
• Extensive experience with Restler PHP frameworks is a plus.
• Proven ability to quickly understand, navigate, and work within large, complex, and legacy codebases.
• Exceptional debugging, analytical, and reverse-engineering skills.
• Direct experience with older, less common PHP frameworks or custom-built systems is a significant advantage.

Architecture & Design:

• Solid experience in designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Demonstrable knowledge of modern architectural patterns; experience with microservices is a significant plus.
• Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and design patterns.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.

Fintech & Payments Domain:

• Experience working on SaaS platforms.
• Prior experience in the fintech or payment processing industry is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with payment methods such as ACH, card processing, and digital wallets (Google Pay/Apple Pay).

Professional & Soft Skills:

• Experience in leading and mentoring other developers is a plus.
• Excellent analytical skills with a talent for debugging and resolving complex technical issues.
• Capable of working independently, managing priorities effectively, and communicating clearly with both technical and non technical stakeholders (e.g., via email, chat, and meetings).
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.
• A strong commitment to writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills are a plus.
