What to Expect
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Body in White Mold/Die Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this hands-on role, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the utmost quality and precision of our Body in White components through process optimization, tooling adjustments, and fit and finish enhancement. Your expertise in dimensional control, GD&T, and cross-functional collaboration will be instrumental in elevating our manufacturing of tool/die processes and achieving superior fit, finish and Body in White quality across the production line.
What You'll Do
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, controls, maintenance, and quality, to conduct root cause analysis for dimensional discrepancies and other build-related issues. Develop and implement effective tooling adjustments to address challenges promptly.
• Lead cross-functional teams in detailed root cause analysis, identifying sources of dimensional discrepancies and contributing to problem-solving initiatives.
• Work on long-term projects aimed at optimizing tooling and processes to enhance the accuracy, repeatability, and quality of body components.
• Maintain a strong presence in sustaining the build plan, resolving issues, and optimizing processes to ensure seamless cooperation with other and fit and finish teams.
• Utilize your deep understanding of tooling and process dynamics to make informed decisions about adjustments and optimizations that improve component repeatability and precision.
• Constantly focus on the improvement of body, fit and finish repeatability, employing data-driven insights to make informed adjustments to tooling and processes.
• Collaborate with quality teams to identify and address part-level issues impacting final assembly, leveraging your dimensional control expertise to enhance overall assembly quality.
• Lead hands-on tooling validation and verification activities, ensuring that jigs, fixtures, and gauges meet dimensional requirements.
• Engage in direct measurement of tools, components, and assemblies using advanced measurement equipment such as CMMs, laser scanners, and other 3D measurement tools.
• Drive KPI improvement initiatives by enhancing tooling and processes, working closely with quality teams to align adjustments with quality objectives.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement by sharing insights, lessons learned, and best practices with cross-functional teams, enhancing overall team capabilities.
• Develop and execute comprehensive measurement plans for prototype and production BIW components, engaging in the validation process to ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Lead the creation and maintenance of process documentation, standard operating procedures, and work instructions related to dimensional control and process optimization.
• Continuously assess industry best practices, emerging technologies, and new methodologies to incorporate them into our fit and finish enhancement initiatives.
• Play a key role in design and process reviews, providing input to ensure that dimensional aspects meet or exceed expectations.
• Develop, validate, and incorporate total vehicle Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements.
• Track and report on all program dimensional specification requirements and progress towards 100% compliance.
• Design for Manufacturing, Best Practices, Exterior/Interior Development Processes, Packaging, Continuous Improvement, and Aesthetic Design knowledge are required.
• Lead and guide technicians in day-to-day activities, providing technical direction and mentorship for hands-on tasks related to tooling validation, measurement, and adjustments.
