Principal Java Engineer

Forte Group is looking for a hands-on
Principal Java Engineer to serve as a key technical lead for our delivery team. In this role, you will balance architectural guidance with direct execution - staying close to the codebase while supporting overall technical strategy across workstreams.
What You'll Do
Drive Architecture:
Own the technical vision, making architectural decisions that balance immediate delivery needs with long-term platform health and scalability.
Write Code:
Actively contribute production-grade code - primarily in Java Spring Boot - while establishing engineering standards and API-first strategies.
Mentor & Lead:
Coach and mentor mid-to-senior engineers across multiple workstreams to elevate the team's overall engineering quality.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Serve as the primary technical liaison, transparently communicating roadmap progress and design choices to engineering leadership.
What You Bring
Senior Experience:
10+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years in a Staff, Principal, or Tech Lead role guiding multi-team organizations.
Backend Mastery:
Deep, production-grade expertise in
Java Spring Boot
(this is our core).
Cloud Architecture:
Strong experience designing and scaling distributed systems on AWS, along with modern CI/CD pipeline ownership.
Full-Stack Awareness:
Enough frontend experience (Angular preferred) to effectively guide UI architecture and unblock your team.
Bonus Points
Experience with Go as a secondary backend language.
Familiarity with implementing AI-augmented coding tools systematically across an engineering team.
A background in regulated enterprise environments (healthcare, finance, etc.).
