Get to Know the Role
You will manage the Android engineering surface for Grab's Interactive Communications products - real-time chat, VoIP calling, and number masking. You'll work across the full mobile lifecycle: architecture decisions, feature delivery, SDK integrations, and production stability. You will report to the Engineering Manager
This is a senior IC role where you'll be expected to lead system design for Android, mentor mid-level engineers, and partner closely with product, design, QA, and backend teams to ship high-quality features that connect millions of passengers, drivers, and merchants daily. This role will be onsite in HCMC
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
Design Android applications using Kotlin and Java, following best practices and architectural patterns
Implement user interfaces following Material Design principles and ensure user experience across several devices and screen sizes
Integrate RESTful APIs and backend services, ensuring efficient data communication and synchronization
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with comprehensive unit and integration tests using frameworks such as JUnit, Espresso, and Mockito
Optimize application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to enhance speed and efficiency
Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement
Troubleshoot and debug complex issues, using analytical skills to identify causes and implement solutions
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to translate requirements into technical specifications
Stay current with Android ecosystem developments, new technologies, and industry best practices
Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives
Mentor junior developers and support their professional growth through guidance and knowledge sharing
