Senior Backend Engineer (Go/Java)

As a Backend Engineer within the Platform teams, you will design, build, and operate highly scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant AI-first E-Commerce and Digital Experience solutions that power Sun Group's diverse ecosystem.
You will work on distributed systems serving millions of users and millions of transactions per month, addressing complex real-world scenarios across travel, hospitality, real estate, aviation, and entertainment. Our platforms integrate with world-class core systems and are natively enhanced by state-of-the-art AI technologies.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with your product development team and partners to elevate Sun Group's services and contribute to Vietnam's broader digital transformation.
Working location: Sun Grand Ancora, 3 Luong Yen, Hanoi (onsite)
Responsibilities
Design and operate microservices and event-driven components (Kafka/RabbitMQ) with strong observability (metrics, logs, traces), SLOs, and graceful degradation.
Build idempotent, secure REST/gRPC APIs for platform services; handle retries, backoff, saga/outbox patterns, and data consistency.
Integrate with payment gateways, third-party partners and Sun Group's internal platforms securely via OAuth2/OIDC/JWT, API Gateway, and proper rate-limiting.
Apply Agile and DevOps practices; CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring; to deliver high-quality code at speed.
Contribute to technical design discussions, architecture improvements, and engineering best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Electronics/Telecom, or related fields.
5+ years backend development on Linux; solid in at least one of Go or Java
Proven experience designing high-volume transactional services (throughput, latency, scalability, caching with Redis).
Hands-on with RDBMS (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB/Redis); schema design, indexing, and performance tuning.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD; automated testing and observability.
Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and familiarity with WebSocket or gRPC is a strong plus.
Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP is an advantage. Experience with Kafka, API Gateway, service mesh is a plus.
