Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join a growing structural and civil engineering consultancy. This is a hands-on role covering the full project lifecycle - from concept design through to construction documentation - across residential, commercial, industrial, and heavy industry sectors. The ideal candidate is technically strong, works independently, and thrives in a fast-paced small office environment.
Working Location: Home-based setup
Work Schedule: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM (AEST)
Key Responsibilities
Lead concept and detailed structural design across reinforced concrete, timber, steel, and masonry
Manage projects from inception through to construction documentation
Coordinate structural design with draftspersons, providing design sketches and ensuring drawing accuracy
Identify and resolve structure-architecture coordination issues proactively
Mentor and guide junior engineers in their technical development
Liaise directly with clients and attend team meetings with stakeholders
Apply and interpret relevant Australian Standards across all project types
Write forensic reports and review independent specialist reports (fire, geotechnical, and others)
Must-Have:
Minimum 6 years experience in reinforced concrete, timber, steel, and masonry
Strong English communicator, able to manage a project from concept to construction documentation
Proficient in structural programs, able to interpret technical literature/structural models and validate by first principles
Able to work with draftspersons, provide structural design sketches, and coordinate drawings
Able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment with strong time management to meet tight deadlines
Nice-to-Have:
Comfortable mentoring junior engineers and guiding their development
Comfortable writing forensic reports, including reviewing independent specialist reports (fire, geotechnical, etc.)
