The Job
A Backend Engineering Manager is responsible for setting the technical direction of backend systems, overseeing DevOps processes, and addressing security concerns related to these domains. This role includes guiding teams, ensuring system scalability, and maintaining a high-quality codebase
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a backend engineering team of approximately 20 engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous professional growth.
- Define and enforce technical direction, best practices, and standards for backend architecture, DevOps pipelines, and system security.
- Design and implement scalable, high-availability backend architectures with a focus on optimal performance and reliability.
- Oversee CI/CD pipelines and manage cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) to ensure efficient and seamless deployments.
- Implement and maintain robust security protocols for backend systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and proactive threat monitoring.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide innovative solutions to maintain system integrity.
- Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies (e.g., Kafka, Redis) and integrating them into existing architectures to enhance performance and scalability.
- Communicate project technical status, risks, and insights effectively to senior management and key stakeholders.
- Take ownership and accountability for solution architecture decisions, ensuring alignment with business goals and technical feasibility.
- Make critical decisions related to software architecture, with a deep focus on leveraging modern tech stacks and distributed system design principles.
Your Skills and Experience
Requirements:
Must-Have:
- Experience:
- At least 7 years in Backend Engineering, including 5+ years in Leadership or Management roles.
- Extensive hands-on experience in Backend development (NodeJS, Golang, Java, Rust...), DevOps, and Cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, enterprise software architecture, and distributed systems.
- Proven ability to design and manage CI/CD pipelines and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Expertise in troubleshooting, optimizing, and scaling distributed systems to meet high-performance demands.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholders.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in designing and implementing PKI systems, particularly those involving key distribution mechanisms (e.g., MPC-SSS and MPC-TSS).
- Proven track record in developing complex end-to-end decentralized applications (DApps).
