1. CAD Design and Data Structure
• Create, maintain, and improve parametric 3D models, 2D drawings, sub-assemblies, and machine-level assemblies using Autodesk Inventor.
• Define and enforce CAD standards, model templates, naming conventions, iProperties, parameter rules, drawing practices, and BOM field requirements.
• Manage design data in Autodesk Vault PDM, including metadata, revision control, lifecycle status, file relationships, and component traceability.
• Maintain a reusable component library with clear relationships between parts, sub-assemblies, machine modules, and final machine assemblies.
• Ensure CAD structures support downstream automation, configuration, and data extraction activities.
2. iLogic Automation Development
• Author and maintain iLogic rules and scripts within Autodesk Inventor to automate design workflows, parameter-driven modeling, and data extraction.
• Develop automated routines using iLogic or Inventor API to extract CAD parameters, iProperties, BOM data, drawing references, and assembly relationships.
• Build configuration-driven design scripts that reduce manual effort when specifying or adapting machine layouts from existing component libraries.
• Continuously improve and refactor iLogic scripts based on feedback from AI data pipeline validation results.
3. Design Data Export & AI Integration
• Design and maintain structured export schemas for CAD/PDM data, including part metadata, iProperties, assembly relationships, BOM structure, and drawing references.
• Export design data in machine-readable formats such as XML, JSON, CSV, and Markdown.
• Collaborate with AI and Data Pipeline engineers to define data dictionaries, field definitions, relationship logic, and ingestion requirements.
• Map part-to-assembly, assembly-to-machine, and module-to-platform relationships to support vector search, graph database ingestion, and CAD knowledge graph development.
• Validate exported data for completeness, consistency, traceability, and AI-readiness before release to downstream pipelines.
4. Design Intelligence & Part Reuse
• Develop workflows within Inventor and Vault to identify duplicate, similar, or reusable components across machine platforms.
• Support part classification by function, geometry characteristics, material, manufacturing process, interchangeability, and application context.
• Help define component standardization rules and reusable module structures for configurable machine design.
• Contribute to configuration intelligence initiatives that reduce engineering effort when specifying, quoting, and configuring grinding machines from existing assemblies.
• Track part reuse metrics and report business impact, including reduced unique part creation and reduced configuration time.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Documentation
• Work with Mechanical Design,
AI Engineering, and Data Pipeline teams in sprint-style cycles to refine schemas, resolve data issues, and improve automation reliability.
• Participate in design reviews and platform standardization discussions, providing the CAD, PDM, BOM, and mechanical engineering perspective.
• Prepare clear documentation for automation logic, export workflows, schema definitions, user instructions, and maintenance procedures.
• Train and support design engineers in using approved templates, metadata rules, automation scripts, and Vault practices.
• Act as the internal subject matter expert for practical Inventor/Vault automation possibilities and limitations.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Autodesk Inventor for parametric 3D solid modeling, assembly design, and 2D engineering drawings.
• Practical experience with Autodesk Vault PDM for design data management, revision control, metadata management, and BOM structuring.
• Hands-on experience developing iLogic rules, VBA scripts, or equivalent Inventor automation routines for CAD workflow automation.
• Working knowledge of structured data formats such as XML, JSON, CSV, or Markdown, and ability to define clear data fields and validation rules.
• Solid understanding of mechanical assembly hierarchies, multi-level BOMs, engineering change management, and component traceability.
• Good mechanical design fundamentals, including tolerance, fits, drawing standards, manufacturability, and function of machine components.
• Ability to communicate clearly with both mechanical design engineers and software/AI/data engineers.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to document technical processes clearly for non-CAD audiences.
Preferred
• Experience with Inventor API, Vault API, Autodesk
Developer SDK, C#/.NET, Python, or Git-based script management.
• Experience exporting structured design data from CAD, PDM, or PLM systems for use by databases, analytics tools, CPQ systems, or automation platforms.
• Familiarity with graph data concepts, knowledge graphs, semantic search, vector databases, or AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Exposure to AI or machine learning concepts. AI/ML model development is not required, but curiosity and willingness to learn are important.
• Experience in industrial machinery, precision machining, machine tools, grinding machines, or finishing equipment.
• Experience with design automation, knowledge-based engineering, product configuration, or modular machine platforms.
