We are currently establishing an Education in Emergencies Roster of Cluster Coordination specialists who would be available to deploy to cover gaps and backfill opportunities across our global humanitarian operations.
Save the Children co-leads the Global Education Cluster in partnership with the UN and provides support to over 20-education clusters/EiE Working Groups, which collectively, coordinate education in emergency responses to over 13 million children.
On deployment you would typically take on the role of a Cluster Coordinator and assume overall responsibility for the co-leadership of the Education cluster; or provide strategic and advisory support to existing Cluster Coordinators. Standard accountabilities would include supporting needs assessments and ensuring education is prioritized in all multi-sector assessments, developing, implementing and monitoring the cluster strategy and work plan, ensuring clear and effective communication between sub-national and national clusters and ensuring Child Safeguarding is addressed. You may also take on some capacity building responsibilities.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with the ability to deploy at short notice for up to 12 weeks at a time.
In order to secure a place on the roster you will bring:
- Extensive progressively responsible work experience within the UN, government and/or NGO, including in a humanitarian context.
- Prior experience of working within a senior management role or cluster coordination within a complex country programme in an emergency response or fragile state
- Experience applying relevant interagency humanitarian frameworks and standards in education in emergencies (for example INEE Minimum Standards)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skill, including the ability to facilitate diverse groups.
- Politically and culturally sensitive with ability to act with of patience, tact and diplomacy
- A high level of written and spoken English and preferably, at least one of the following additional languages - French, Spanish and/or Arabic.
- Demonstrable ability to work and represent views across different stakeholders taking part in the Education Cluster.
- Knowledge of the IASC Cluster System and recent humanitarian reform developments, including the Transformative Agenda
- A demonstrable commitment to
- The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
- Experience in coordination roles in the first phase of a major emergency response is helpful
- Experience in child participation, child safeguarding or working with local partners would also be desirable.
Contracts would be issued upon deployment. Accommodation, flights and business travel insurance (including medical) would be provided.
