Design Manager (Infrastructure)

At gbc engineers, we're expanding our Engineering Department in Ho Chi Minh City and we're looking for Design Manager (Infrastructure) to join our international team of experts from Germany and Vietnam.
We specialize in structural design, BIM modeling, and project management for industrial, commercial, and residential developments across Europe. Combining German engineering precision with digital innovation and international collaboration, we deliver sustainable, high-quality design solutions for the built environment.
This role is responsible for managing the design output of the engineering team, ensuring project designs meet client requirements, quality standards, and delivery timelines. Oversees both BIM and design workflows.
Responsibilities
1. Design Management & Delivery (35%)
Manage and coordinate the delivery of structural and BIM design outputs across all active projects.
Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, and BIM models prior to client submission.
Ensure all design deliverables meet client specifications, contractual requirements, and applicable codes (Eurocode, TCVN).
Monitor design program and resource allocation to ensure timely delivery.
Provide technical direction and decision-making support on complex design challenges.
2. Team Coordination (25%)
Cross-Disciplinary Leadership
Coordinate the Structural and BIM teams, ensuring effective collaboration and information flow.
Facilitate regular design coordination meetings with Team Leaders, Lead Engineers, and Project Managers.
Manage allocation of engineering resources to projects based on priority and capacity.
Mentor Senior Engineers and Team Leaders to build technical depth within the department.
3. Quality & Standards (20%)
QA/QC & Standards
Develop, implement, and maintain design quality management procedures across the engineering department.
Conduct design audits and technical reviews to ensure compliance with company standards and client requirements.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives for design processes, workflows, and BIM integration.
Ensure all teams adhere to BIM standards and relevant industry best practices.
4. Client & Stakeholder Management (20%)
Client Interface
Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients during the design phase.
Attend client design review meetings and present design solutions clearly and professionally.
Manage design-related risks and change requests, ensuring proper documentation and communication.
Support the business development team with technical input for proposals and tenders.
Additional ResponsibilitiesPerform other tasks as assigned by Line Manager.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Minimum 8 years of experience in structural engineering or design management.
Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, TCVN, and other relevant design codes for infratructure.
Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary design teams.
Familiarity with BIM workflows and software (Revit, Allplan, or Civil 3D).
Excellent project management, communication, and client-facing skills.
Proficiency in English; knowledge of German is a strong advantage.
