Your opportunity
Reporting to the Queensland Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner - Southeast Asia, you will lead Queensland's trade and investment interests in Vietnam through the identification, promotion, and facilitation of trade and investment opportunities in key industry sectors for Queensland businesses.
You will operate as a senior leader, applying deep market expertise, strong commercial judgment, and influential stakeholder engagement to deliver tangible export outcomes for Queensland businesses, leading a team of two direct reports in trade and investment strategy.
Your contribution (key responsibilities and accountabilities)
• Lead a high-performing Vietnam-based trade and investment team to deliver Queensland's trade and investment strategy against measurable export and investment targets, generating strong commercial outcomes for Queensland businesses
• Initiate and oversee major trade and investment initiatives and promotions in Vietnam, ensuring strong coordination within TIQ and with government and industry partners
• Leverage the government role to build trusted, high-value relationships, develop market-entry and trade engagement strategies, and enable Queensland exporters to access and succeed in Vietnam
• Promote Queensland as a premier global investment destination for Vietnamese investors by shaping and executing TIQ's Foreign Direct Investment strategy in Vietnam and engaging directly with C-suite executives, boards, and senior investors
• Oversee investor aftercare for major Vietnamese investors in Queensland while proactively targeting and securing new priority investments aligned with Queensland's strategic industry sectors
• Represent TIQ at senior corporate and government forums, identifying and securing strategic commercial opportunities that strengthen Queensland's global competitiveness
• Build and maintain deep networks with senior decision-makers, investors, and industry leaders, collaborating closely with Australian and Vietnamese government agencies and peak industry bodies to raise Queensland's profile in Vietnam
• Lead the planning and delivery of Ministerial visits and high-level business missions, including program design, stakeholder engagement, and support to visiting delegations
• Provide strategic guidance to Queensland companies and government on trade and investment opportunities in Vietnam, including market intelligence, partner introductions, opportunity assessment, and advice on trends, risks, and opportunities

To determine your suitability for the role, you will be assessed on the following key capabilities that link to the "key responsibilities and accountabilities" for this role:
• Thinks strategically and brings sound commercial acumen, an understanding of government and the credibility to contribute substantially to international investment activities
• Demonstrates a deep familiarity with Vietnam's trade and investment environment, with 10+ years professional experience
• Encourages creativity and innovation and demonstrates detailed knowledge in one or more of the Queensland Government's key industry sectors (food and agribusiness, resources and energy, consumer, health, and tech and innovation)
• Demonstrates clear and concise, cross-cultural written and verbal communication skills to accurately report progress and performance
• Provides advice to stakeholders that is rigorously considered and supported by clear rationale and market analysis
• Practical experience in international business or management and/or qualifications in international business or a related discipline will be well regarded.
Eligibility
• To be eligible for consideration with this opportunity, you must have:
+ Work Authorisation - to be eligible for employment within TIQ, you must be legally authorised to live and work in Vietnam at the time of appointment and provide evidence to support eligibility.
+ Language - full professional fluency in both Vietnamese and English (written and spoken) is essential for this role.
