The Job
Position: Part-Time Senior Python Backend Engineer
Employment Type: Contract / Part-time
Time Commitment: Minimum 20 hours per week with flexible scheduling
We are seeking a Senior Python Backend Engineer to own and deliver critical backend services, from API design to deployment on Google Cloud. You'll work on high-impact features and leverage AI coding tools to accelerate development while maintaining high quality standards. The primary focus is backend development in Python, with optional opportunities to contribute to [protected info], React, and cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain production-grade Python APIs using FastAPI or Starlette
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code using pytest
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain services on Google Cloud Platform (GCE, Cloud Run, Firebase)
- Effectively integrate AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) into daily workflows
Your Skills and Experience
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced Python 3.12+ experience with production-grade API server development and strong typing practices
- Hands-on experience with FastAPI or Starlette frameworks
- Proficiency in MongoDB database management
- Solid experience with pytest for unit and integration testing
- Practical experience with GCP infrastructure (GCE, Cloud Run, Firebase)
- Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools and ability to integrate them effectively into development workflows
- Excellent written communication skills in English
Preferred Qualifications:
- [protected info] experience (Express/Fastify/Koa) with routing and middleware
- React development skills including hooks and state management (react-query/Zustand)
- Knowledge of SPA routing and accessibility fundamentals
- Experience with build tooling (Vite/Webpack) and asset handling
- Docker and docker-compose proficiency
- Advanced GCP services knowledge (IAM, networking, Pub/Sub)
- Observability expertise: logs, metrics, and tracing
- Experience with vector stores and multi-agent/LLM orchestration patterns
- Basic spoken English
