JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for overseeing new R&D product development, managing design engineering processes, and supervising team members; Design and update all new drawing information; provide spreadsheets for Costing and BOM updating; Manage all R&D projects from start to finish as required; Collaborate with company stake holders to develop new furniture designs to drive the business forward; Train and support other team members on the R&D/product engineering team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work on design product engineering and new R&D for business growth
2. Oversee Casegoods R&D Engineering operations and team management.
3. Discuss projects with US team/other departments to align on R&D acceptance.
4. Able to design furniture groups from start to finish with initial outline given only (pictures, basic
specs, dimensions).
5. Must design full bedroom groups for lowest cost, design for manufacturability, while using
materials that fit well with existing supply chain.
6. Collaborate with sourcing, product engineering, and related teams to develop new components
and materials as needed.
7. Follow up through initial R&D designs to final product ready units for each project as requested.
8. Process continuous improvement for enhancement & cost saving.
9. Train and support other team members on the R&D/product engineering team, as well lead
onboarding for new R&D engineers.
10. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including US/International Merchandising/Sales,
Sourcing, and the sample development team to create new products as requested by business
leaders.
11. Support to prepare and manage products, and product request lists for customer visits, US
furniture shows, and international furniture shows.
12. Maintain design documentation and archives.
13. Process Casegoods projects per Supervisor assignment.
14. Perform other tasks as assigned by Department Head.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
In charge of leading Casegoods R&D Engineering and Design support operations.
• Work on new style development and team management.
• Assist in cost reduction projects.
• Oversee product design and merchandising activities.
Yêu cầu
Education
• Bachelor's degree in industrial design, Product Design, Engineering, or related field.
• Advanced coursework in Furniture R&D Engineering preferred.
• Merchandising coursework or certification an advantage.
Experience
• 3 - 5 years of experience in furniture manufacturing environment.
• 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Development samples/Pattern process experience.
• 2 - 3 years' experience working with equipment hardware and CAD; Solidworks software.
• Furniture design or merchandising experience preferred.
• Packaging experience an advantage.
Knowledge of:
• Advanced knowledge of furniture design principles and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge and ability to create detailed technical drawings by software.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of drawings, and samples.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various Casegoods and Casegoods related products.
• Color theory and finish applications.
• Basic cost analysis and pricing strategies.
• Merchandising and retail concepts.
