DevOps Engineer

Report to: DevOps Leader

Level: Executive

RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installing, configuring, operating, monitoring and maintaining software supporting Timo banking infrastructure, Timo software development teams' systems and other business-related systems. This individual ensures Timo software is built, tested and released reliably at high velocity.

This position deals with a variety of problems and sometimes has to decide which answer is best. Most of the time, the DevOps Engineer works autonomously without little or no supervision.

DevOps Engineering

Design, build and maintain a stable and efficient infrastructure for service delivery across production, QA, and development environments throughout the development lifecycle.
Monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and continuously improve building, packaging, and deployment processes, CI/CD pipelines.
Measure and continuously improve these key metrics:
- Lead time for changes
- Deployment frequency
- Time to restore service
- Change failure rate

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge and Skills

Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science
Knowledge and experience of DevOps principles, frameworks and tools
Experience with blue-green deployment
Knowledge and experience of container and container orchestration technology such as Kubernetes, Docker, Helm
Knowledge and experience of CI/CD methods and toolsets, such as Gitlab CI or Jenkins
Experience in developing, integrating, building, packaging and deploying software, with Java, Python or Golang
Knowledge and experience of working with public cloud providers, AWS is preferred
Understanding the concept of Infrastructure as Code and experience to implement it, preferably with Ansible, Terraform, Packer
Knowledge and experience on the following software are desirable:
- Hashicorp Vault
- ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana
- InfluxDB
- RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka
- Redis
- CentOS/RHEL/Amazon Linux

DISCRETION/LATITUDE/DECISION-MAKING:

Decisions normally have a noticeable effect department-wide and company-wide, and judgment errors can typically require one to two weeks to correct or reverse.

RESPONSIBILITY/OVERSIGHT -FINANCIAL & SUPERVISORY:

Functions as a lead worker doing the work similar to those in the work unit; responsibility for training, instruction, setting the work pace, and possibly evaluating performance.
No budget responsibility.

COMMUNICATIONS/INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues. May resolve problems within established practices.
Provides occasional guidance, some of which is technical.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advance notice.
No regular travel required.
