JOB SUMMARY
The (senior) research assistant will be part of the Zoonoses group. The successful applicant will mainly work and coordinate laboratory and field activities as well as data analysis for publications. The project is part of the Zoonoses and Emerging Livestock System (ZELS) funding programme The position is mainly based at OUCRU, HCMC but required travel to Myanmar as part of the project ZELS- Myanmar Pig Partnership.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Coordinate and take lead on the on-going research project in Myanmar including to:
o Take part in research project design and development of microbiology related SOPs
o Train and work with laboratory staff in sample and data collection,
o Analyse (molecular) microbiological data analysis.
o Organizing meetings and preparing reports
o Be responsible for planning lab materials and consumables for related projects
Actively perform related lab and field activities
Train and work with other research staff of the team
Perform updated systematic review of related published literature for presentations and publications
Take part in writing manuscripts for international peer- reviewed publications

LOCATION
This post is based in Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, Ho Chi Minh City.
HOURS OF WORK
Full time Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week, extra hours may be required.
TENURE
Initially for one year, includes of 2 months' probation, with the possibility for extension later.

SELECTION CRITERIA
QUALIFICATION - Applicants should have:
1. A minimum of Master degree in molecular microbiology, or Biomedicine; or medicine/ veterinary medicine
2. Having sufficient research experiences
3. Being proactive and having self-learn / self-taught skills and experiences
For appointment as a Senior Research Assistant:
- A requirement of A PhD in molecular biology, medical microbiology and epidemiology or other related biological/ medical sciences
PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS
- Having at least two recent years on research activities in microbiology including:
o Developing research related SOPs.
o Implementing research project
o Writing research report and preparing manuscripts for research publications
- Having understanding on concepts of and research interest on zoonotic infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance
- Analytical problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, self-initiative, attention to detail
- Ability to work to tight deadlines with an appropriate manner
- Team player, organized, patient, dedicated, tactful, understanding, disciplined and mature
- Keen on self-development and strong interest in career development in science
- IELTS equivalent to 6.5 or above
Preferable: a candidate with:
- Publication(s) in international peer-reviewed scientific journals
- Good understand about the group and the nature of our research as well as the related project (information can be found via internet and our website).
- Experiences in working with research partners in developing countries and government institutions
Desirable: a candidate with
- Having oversea research experiences
- Professional communication skills
