The Technical Development Manager is responsible for technical leadership, machinery reliability and continuous improvement across the factory. Acting as a Technical Development Manager, this role bridges engineering, maintenance, and production, ensuring that all machinery, automation systems, and production lines operate safely, efficiently and in alignment with the company's high-quality standards for custom marine stainless-steel components. The position supports the Factory Manager by implementing lean manufacturing initiatives, machinery optimization, SOP implementation, and production improvements.
Core Responsibilities
1. Machinery, Automation & Technology Upgrades
- Innovation Scouting: Identify strategic opportunities for automation, tooling advancements, and high-tech upgrades to maintain a competitive edge.
- Lifecycle Management: Lead the design, testing, installation, and commissioning of new machinery and integrated systems.
- Vendor Relations: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for external suppliers, system integrators, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
- Standardization: Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new equipment, lead the technical training and handover process to production teams.
2. Engineering Support & Process Optimization
- Performance Metrics: Drive continuous improvement in machine utilization, cycle times, precision repeatability, and energy efficiency.
- Complex Problem Solving: Provide expert, hands-on engineering support to resolve escalated technical or production bottlenecks.
- Custom Fabrication Strategy: Develop practical engineering solutions tailored to high-quality, low-volume marine fabrication requirements.
- NPI Support: Partner with the engineering team to develop manufacturing processes for New Product Introductions (NPI) and complex one-off custom orders.
3. Technical Leadership & Cross-Functional Synergy
- Technical Oversight: Manage all technical aspects of production under the guidance of the Factory Manager (FM) and Operations Manager (OM).
- Supervision: Provide technical mentorship and guidance to Section Team Leaders to ensure fabrication aligns with engineering drawings and quality standards.
- Design for Manufacturing (DfM): Collaborate with the
Engineering Manager/Drafting team to ensure all designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
- Culture of Excellence: Support the FM in fostering a & "Safety-First" and "Quality-Driven" culture through continuous training and technical coaching.
- Experience: Minimum 5-10 years in Technical/Machinery Management, specifically within stainless steel or high-precision metal manufacturing.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Technical Proficiency:
o Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
o Deep understanding of mechanical processing, CNC machinery, and automation logic.
- Languages & Tools: Proficiency in English (reading technical manuals and professional communication) and advanced MS Office skills.
