Support educators are expected to consistently work in line with the vision, philosophy and policies of Lavelle Academy. Support educators report to the lead educator of their team and to the Directorof Education.
As a member of an education team, a support educator's job is outlined, but not restricted to, the following:
Working with children:
• Observe children during play and in their interactions and provide feedback to educators and other support educators about what has been observed.
• Be responsible for the general hygiene of the children in their care.
• Have a good understanding of child development in order to support each child and plan accordingly.
• Promote, encourage and facilitate children in developing self-confidence, self-awareness, independence and other areas of child development.
• Be a positive role-model for children at all times.
• Lead small group activities with children of varied ages.
• Demonstrate a positive, compassionate and patient attitude towards children.
• Interact with children and get involved in children's play as a way of role-modelling and constructing observations.
• Respect and listen to each child's voice.
• Create a safe, engaging and welcoming environment for the children in their care.
• Communicate with children in a clear, positive manner.
Collaboration:
• Always display respect and kindness to colleagues and families at Lavelle Academy.
• Support educators in managing challenging behaviour and promoting positive behaviour.
• Share resources with other educators.
• Attend and contribute to weekly meetings with other educators to ensure high quality planning and care.
• Consult the educators and the Director of Education if there are any problems with a child or family before attempting to handle them directly.
• Meet weekly with the Director of Education to provide updates and discuss any issues.
• Collaborate to document and monitor development of each child.
• Be open to receive and give comments as well as feedback.
• Liaise with parents/carers if required.
Classroom setup:
• Inform the classroom educator if there is anything in the class that is broken or missing.
• Maintain a clean, well-organised and safe learning environment.
• Return classroom equipment such as iPads, cameras to the reception at the end of the day.
• Manage and maintain good upkeep of the toys, facilities and building.
• Organise spaces and make sure they are kept clean and tidy.
• Inform educator and reception as soon as possible if items or materials are not in stock.
• Toys, learning materials/tools need to be cleaned, sorted out and put back in their designated place.
• Assist educators in developing and implementing emergent curriculum.
• Be creative and responsive in setting up the classroom and preparing materials for daily activities.
• Keep and fill up basic resources like paints, card, pencils, crayons etc. in the group.
Hygiene and safety:
• Ensure that if children get messy, they change into clean clothes once they've finished the activity.
• Ensure the safety of the children by ensuring the environment is free of hazards and any potential dangers that could cause harm.
• Support children in learning about the importance of hygiene and the reasons why we do certain actions (wash our hands, brush our teeth etc).
• Responsible for daily hygiene and safety of children.
• Inform educators or management of any potential accident risk.
• Report any hazards or potential dangers to a member of management straight away.
• Uphold excellent standards of hygiene and safety in all areas of Lavelle Academy.
• Report to educators immediately if any incident/accident occurs involving a child.
Extra-curricular activities:
• Support in providing breakfast, snack and lunch for children.
• Attend and contribute to group meeting, professional development and training workshops.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.
• Collaborate to hold school events and field trips.
• Participate and help with afterschool clubs.
For Lead Support Educator:
• Take initiative in organising and maintaining a professional working environment.
• Translate information or messages when required.
• Greet parents and children during drop off and pick up time when required.
• Be a good role model for other support educators.
• Work closely with educators to provide help and assistance in running the class; be able to supervise the class for a short period of time.
• Demonstrate a professional working manner and positive attitude towards others.
• Take responsibility in training new support educators.
• Give comments and feedback to educators and support educators when necessary.
• Supervise support educator's performance and assist them in carrying out their duties.
Yêu cầu
• Associate's Degree (2-year diploma).
• Ability to keep regular schedules and perform special tasks as assigned.
• Good computer skills.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• High English language proficiency, written and spoken.
• A minimum of 1-year experience in same position.
