English Teacher

The English Teacher is responsible for implementing the English language course to KOTO trainees. The English Teacher will teach lessons, carry out assessments, and monitor trainees' English language proficiency throughout the course. The English Teacher is also responsible for collaborating with other subject teachers to ensure that English language is reinforced throughout KOTO's holistic training program. They will also manage the curriculum, making sure that all topics and objectives are covered, while also highlighting any gaps in knowledge or suggestions for further improvement. The English Teacher must also work with any external partners that may add value to KOTO's curriculum in the form of content, workshops, competitions, or technology.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Chief Curriculum Officer.
Key Working Relations
Internal: KOTO trainees and all KOTO staff and volunteers.
External: Educational and industry partners or representatives.
Responsibilities:
Deliver KOTO's English Language Curriculum
● Teach KOTO's English language curriculum, covering all objectives outlined.
● Teach using a communicative approach, ensuring lessons are engaging, interactive, memorable and meaningful.
● Teach lessons in a way where trainees not only learn English, but also develop core 21st Century skills, such as communication, creative thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and critical thinking.
● Ensure that trainees meet the minimum requirements and outcomes of the English language program - specifically a CEFR level of A2 English and English for Hospitality purposes.
● Create lesson plans, teaching resources and materials according to curriculum needs.
Provide Feedback on Trainee Performance
● Provide regular feedback and assessment on trainee performance, with clear action plans for any underperforming trainees.
● Carry out tutoring sessions for trainees needing support.
● Conducting any placement tests, end of semester or end of unit tests as required.
● Conduct any mock interviews or roleplays of service in coordination with other subject teachers to provide feedback on trainees' English.
Curriculum Support
● Continuously assess and provide feedback on KOTO's English language curriculum, providing any feedback or suggestions to the Chief Curriculum Officer and developing the syllabus where necessary.
● Identify any gaps in trainee knowledge and skills, and suggest any adjustments to the curriculum with the Chief Curriculum officer.
Working with Partners
● Work with educational partners to organise any guest speakers or guest assessors for any roleplay activities or competitions.
● Coordinate with external educational partners on the development and implementation of the English curriculum.
● Proactively seek out any industry or educational partners that may be able to add value to KOTO's program in the form of content, workshops, competitions, or technology.
Other Tasks
● Supporting, organizing or conducting internal and external competitions, providing advice/guidance to trainees in the preparation accordingly.
● Support KOTO events and be involved in the event management or organisation of any trainees involved in any KOTO events.
● Maintain and strengthen industry and educational partnerships.
● Participate in other activities of KOTO. Including but not limited to: external trips, alumni events, staff workshops and training sessions.
● Perform other relevant tasks as assigned by the Chief Curriculum Officer.
● When required, undertake the role of 'Homeroom Teacher' providing pastoral care, monitoring student wellbeing and progress, and maintaining accurate records.
● Other tasks as assigned by the managers to support general Foundations' activities.
