Level: Director / Senior Director
Location: Hanoi, Vietnam, with frequent travel to international markets
Purpose of the Role The Global Director of Driver Supply is accountable for building and running GSM's driver supply system worldwide, ensuring the right number of drivers, of the right quality, are in place at the right time (electric cars and e-motorbikes) to meet growth demand in each market. This role owns the full driver lifecycle, from attraction, recruitment, training, and activation through to retention, while balancing supply and demand with cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Driver Supply Strategy
Develop the global driver supply strategy and plan, aligned with growth targets, fleet plans, and budgets.
Forecast driver demand by market, area, time of day, and vehicle type, working with Operations, Data, and Finance.
Design a standardized, scalable supply model and playbook that can be rolled out quickly in new markets while adapting to local conditions.
Driver Attraction and Recruitment
Build and optimize recruitment channels: referrals, local partners, communities, vocational schools, digital recruitment, and events.
Manage driver acquisition cost (CAC) and conversion rates at each stage of the recruitment funnel.
Standardize processes for application screening, background checks, license verification, and health requirements.
Onboarding, Training, and Activation
Develop standard training programs covering service quality, safety, app usage, EV operation, and code of conduct.
Shorten the time from sign-up to first trip and increase the driver activation rate.
Work with Training and Fleet Operations to handle vehicle allocation, handover, and early-stage support.
Driver Retention and Development
Build engagement, recognition, career pathway, and driver development programs.
Design fair, transparent income, bonus, and incentive mechanisms that balance driver motivation with unit economics.
Analyze reasons for attrition and implement measures to reduce churn.
Build a driver community along with listening and support channels (hotline, app, driver representatives).
Supply-Demand Balance and Performance
Work with Product/Technology to optimize dispatch, pricing, and real-time incentives, and to reduce wait times and idle time.
Monitor driver performance: online hours, trip volume, acceptance and completion rates, and average earnings.
Manage supply during peak hours, seasonal fluctuations, and special events.
Quality, Safety, and Compliance
Collaborate with relevant functions to improve service quality, safety standards, and driver-related incident management.
Ensure compliance with labor, insurance, tax, and transport regulations in each country, including driver partnership models.
Establish fair and consistent processes for handling violations, complaints, and partnership termination.
Data and Technology
Build dashboards that track the driver funnel, performance, retention, and costs in real time.
Drive digitalization of driver registration, screening, training, and support, and apply AI and automation.
Budget and Partner Management
Own the driver supply budget, control costs, and maximize return on investment.
Manage relationships with recruitment partners, training providers, service vendors, and local regulators.
Organizational Leadership
Build and lead the global driver supply team, working closely with Country General Managers and Heads of Operations.
Develop team capabilities, succession planning, and a high-performance culture centered on drivers and customers.
Report results and risks regularly to the Global COO.
3. Candidate Requirements
Experience
At least 10 years of experience in operations, large-scale recruitment, or workforce/partner supply, including a minimum of 5 years in senior management roles.
Experience managing driver supply or large-scale workforces in ride-hailing, delivery, transportation, logistics, or gig-economy platforms.
Multi-country experience, preferably in Southeast Asia or other emerging markets.
Track record of rapidly building supply in new market launches and improving retention.
