The HRS Business Travel Club (BTC) is based on the Commerce platforms of the well-known hotel portal businesses of [protected info] and HOTEL.DE that transform into much more than "just" a platform: BTC provides its members, individual business travelers, and SMEs, with a distinct range of exclusive services, which shape tomorrow ́s safe, sustainable and upgraded travel experience. The primary purpose of BTC is to create loyalty between HRS and its customers. We envision a Prime-like system for Business Travelers, where members get on "golden handcuffs" in exchange for superior benefits and services. Thus, the Club and its products play an important role in HRS ́s DACH strategy as it revolves around disruption of the interplay between hotel and workplace supply and e-commerce and domination of the Business Travel DACH market.
POSITION
In the responsible position of the Backend Engineer, the future position holder is accountable to build the next generation of APIs and Services. As a Backend Engineer, you are responsible for the development and maintenance of our backend components to ensure stabilization and enable our exclusive services for our customers.
Your role & responsibilities:
CHALLENGE
Work with a wide range of systems, processes, and technologies to own and solve problems from end-to-end
Design, build and maintain APIs, services, frontends, and systems across HRS' engineering teams
Build new features for internal and external users
Work with engineers across the company to build new features and services at large-scale
Uphold our high engineering standards and bring consistency to the many codebases and processes you will encounter
Your skills & qualifications:
FOR THIS EXCITING MISSION YOU ARE EQUIPPED WITH...
Strong backend engineering background with 5+ years of relevant, on-the-job experience
Enjoyment for being a generalist working on our backend (mostly Java 8), with good knowledge of AWS services, and anything it takes to solve problems and delight users
Knowledge & skills in systems and services and writing high-quality code. We work mostly in Java and React. However, languages can be learned: we care much more about your general engineering skill than knowledge of a particular language or framework
Expertise in AWS cloud engineering. We still have some legacy; however, we are on a journey to a cloud-native, serverless, and NoOps environment. We need your expertise to bring us there
The ability to thrive in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts
Pride in working on projects to successful completion involving a wide variety of technologies and systems
The ability to stitch together many different services and processes together even if you have not worked with them before
The ability to put themselves in the shoes of the users and be a steward of crafting great experiences
Enjoyment in working with a diverse group of people with different expertise
Skills for upholding best practices in engineering, security, and design
Fluency in English, spoken and written
