Prep School Technician (Health and STEM Technician)

Technician support is required in Prep for: HEALTH (Home Economics and Lifetime Health), Design Technology, Art and design, Science. There may also be some additional, but less frequent needs in other lessons including to support specialist teachers in Music and Drama (e.g. typically related to performances) and Computing. This role is different to a Teaching Assistant role as it links to the subject and resourcing requirements specifically. Experience and enthusiasm for Home Economics is a requirement for this role.
• To support excellent outcomes in all practical subjects across the Prep school but with a base focus on HEALTH education.
• To work with teachers and TAs to support the ordering, supplies, lesson set up and storage areas for the subjects of Art & design and HEALTH.
• To work closely with Prep teachers and TAs to support partnership work with the Senior School technicians for Design Technology and Science to fulfil the same needs in these subjects.
• To support teachers with the ordering, sorting and storage of props and costumes for the Prep School productions, assemblies and oracy showcase events.
• To support all Prep teachers to plan and prepare teaching and learning in line with the school's curriculum expectation and policies.
• To provide for the student's well-being ensuring all aspects of their safety in accordance with the school's health and safety policy, the safeguarding policy, and the wider policies and protocols.
• To read, understand and work within the school's policies and procedures.
• To provide skilled assistance to academic staff in preparation of teaching aids.
• To liaise with cleaners and maintenance staff.
• To have a solutions focussed approach and the ability to resolve technical issues.
• To undertake any other reasonable duties as required.
Specific to HEALTH:
Kitchen /HEALTH room
• Co-ordinate with chef for HEALTH lesson and CCA orders each week, supporting teachers with knowledge of local ingredients and cost of all ingredients.
• To keep ongoing records of the spending for HEALTH orders and report this to CLT regularly to help them to monitor spending.
• Support teachers with lesson planning, using local knowledge to enhance Vietnamese/Asian cookery.
• Prepare and set up ingredients for lessons and CCAs on a daily basis.
• Check every work area has the correct equipment and all is fully functioning, working with teachers and Operations to ensure all equipment is available, safe and in the correct place.
• Monitor stock levels in storage cupboard, fridge and freezer (checking use by dates regularly).
• Support teachers and pupils in lessons.
• Check H&S of equipment in HELATH room.
• Maintain equipment in HEALTH room.
• Cleaning and re-stocking of aprons and cloths for washing and drying.
• Maintaining stock levels of other consumables in the HEALTH room (batteries, cleaning consumables).
• Order replacement equipment within the annual budget and orders for the HEALTH room.
• Liaise with maintenance and operations to ensure everything in the HEALTH room is fully functioning and safe to use.
• Work closely with the teacher(s) of HEALTH to improve the curriculum, layout and general organisation of HEALTH.
• Maintain an inventory of all equipment in the HEALTH room, recording anything that is borrowed and returned.
• Defrost freezer at the end of every term.
• Administrative Support: Maintaining records of departmental resources, inventory management, and ordering supplies. This could also involve using computer systems for tracking and managing materials.

Gardening:
• Liaise with teachers over curriculum content looking for opportunities for all pupils to grow plants in the rooftop garden
• Maintain equipment for gardening activities
• Be responsible for ordering suitable seeds for the rooftop garden
CCAs
• Support with HEALTH related CCAs, 3-4 based in HEALTH room, and 1-2 gardening each week.
